Back on the job! I checked the primer this morning and it was definitely tougher than before but I'm still not satisfied. So we're stripping it all off.

Today is 6 weeks until vacation start. Am hoping to get the KF done in time. I do have a Plan B to expedite things. And also a Plan C if all else fails. :D

First pass. I'd let the boy apply the stripper. I donned some gloves to scrape. Immediately upon starting I got a snoot full of vapors, stopped and put on my respirator too. Big dummy.

Rolling now though.

Am planning on this cleaning sequence.

Stripper.
Mineral spirits.
Acetone.
Alcohol.
Soap and water.
Vinegar solution.
Air dry.

Then I'll try painting again IF and ONLY IF the humidity is right. Then we'll see.

Not sure I've seen these issues and around the forum here a guy sees boats painted from one side of the country to the other.
I'm thinking that maybe I didn't correctly prep the surface which is why I'm trying the current sequence.

We're doing pretty well, except when the boy said "Oh! That's really clean!" and then ran his fingers across the cleaned area. Ya buys 'em books, send 'em to school and what do they do? Eat the teacher! LMAO!

Working on the console now.

We closed up the garage doors and windows, then painted. Gonna leave it that way for awhile. Keeping my fingers crossed here.

Console lower section only was painted.

Hahaha! Fer sure!

I just sent the boy out to grab a couple pix of our test paint. Looking good so far. Uniform and dry. I think I'll leave it alone for 24 hours before the fingernail test.

24 hours is probably not enough time to have the paint gas out all the way let alone harden.

Ah. Okay. How long should I wait?

Afternoon break is over and we're back in the garage. I'm sitting here wondering what I can do while watching paint dry!

If it looks good and your confident it's going to work out then I'd say start putting that primer and paint on.

Checked the paint just before 7:00 and it looks pretty good. :)

So no fingernail test needed?

Okay, tomorrow morning I have to go buy more SE primer.

Should I buy Rusto regular or Majic regular primer while I'm m out?

So I went with Rusto. Picked up more SE plus some regular primer this afternoon. Got some 2000 grit wet/dry paper too.

The plan right now is to strip off the test bed primer from the hull and console, taking everything right back down to zero. That way I don't have to fuss with trying to mask off the test area when we do the prep cleaning for the entire hull.

Once it's cleaned, I'll prime with the SE and depending on how I feel, I may go ahead with the regular primer and color coats a la the WM method. My health plays a factor in it though.

I'm not exactly sure how I'll do the painting with the rattle cans. My original plan was to bring the old tarp shelter into the garage, block off the ends and use it as a spray booth. That doesn't seem feasible at the moment.

Humidity is down to 58% now but it's still 86 degrees. I'm gonna wait for things to cool down a bit before I go outside.

The old tarp shelter.

Got the test areas stripped this evening before the rains came.

Temp was about 82 degrees with 55% humidity. The aircraft stripper really worked well on the fresh primer.

If you're making any kid of booth it better have a ventilation/filtration system and you better be wearing a respirator.... not not a dust mask! That's a lot of rattle cans. I have a HVLP gun for when it gets that big.... But that's another variable in the equation you may not need.....
