Re: hull extension in progress with picks

I'll be later with my pics, but I took an awful lot on both my camera and the latest camera in the growing collection for oops!.

But he's right, the gelcoat is on. He's on to the next step of making it shiny and smooth.

3 coats, between 35mm and 50mm thickness in total, and they're done for the night.

One "oops" where the air hose touched the hull. Will need sanding and gelcoat repair but will come out fine.

And for some reason, my camera stopped working....

BTW, was very impressed with the HVLP gun being used. I expected a white fog but this gun put almost all the material on the boat hull. Very little wasted.

Lastly, oops! is doing this near a boat rental yard. They've got one pontoon boat that they have pretty much given up on how it's returned.

The prop on this thing is a hoot.

I'm one of the many lurkers that have been following this thread, but never posted before (I'm sure there are many many of us)... extremely impressive job, and even more impressive that oops has kept on it and getting it done!! He's one stubborn dude. :)

I'm assuming you meant 3.5 mm to 5.0 mm ... right?

Is there gonna be another gel coat-fest for the top?

I think the correct number is 0.35 to 0.5 mm thick. I really like Vanna showing it off!

Can't wait to see more pictures. Great job!

Have a great day,

Rob.

Oops, can you help me understand how you use Gelcoat and a HVLP gun. I would think it would set up on you and you would be left with a hunk of junk.. do you mix it first? is the gun mixing it as it leaves?

Thanks...

Great work! Cool project....

The second image doesn't come up for me in either thread. Just a "Image hosted by Tripod" message. And it looks nothing like oops!.
