Re: hull extension in progress with picks
Re: hull extension in progress with picks
im really having a problem with photobuckets bulk uploader.....it doesnt work so i have to upload everything pic by pic.....
i was uploading these last night.....
this is going back to the coupler fiasco that don s and robj bailed me out of.
the standard coupler these days is a triangular style that bolts to the outer edges of the flywheel.
the older style used for pre 80's applications was a kinda mushroom/bell shaped peice.
the older style is a little longer allowing the drive shaft to be inserted farther into the coupler....this is only by a half inch or so...
if you notice in the above picture.....the bell shape of the coupler does not allow standard crank shaft bolts to be used.
they actually used grade 8 studs for this job...
do you think the studs are easy to find?
on top of that ....there are 2 length of stud sizes...we needed the longer ones.
it took us all day on the phone and driving around to get 6 studs.
the shorter thread end of the stud goes into the crank shaft.....
the longer end is for the flywheel and the coupler and the washer and the nut.
well....the problem with the studs.....is that they nust be installed into the crank at 55 lbs of torque. so ....that means you have to double nut them....torque them to 55 then slide the fly wheel on....hammer that into place....install the coupler...then fit the washer and nut in a tiny area and torque that to 55....
after i got all the correct pieces ... it took me about 10 minits per stud to install....then another 10 per stud to finish with the coupler due to limited access with the open end wrench....so to install the coupler and flywheel....it took over 3 hours (including beer and cuss breaks) to install these parts.....
man am i glad they work
ok....ill have more updates on the latest when i get back from the shop
cheers
