Hello, I am new to this forum and I have only gotten to page 6 of your thread but I have to say I am hooked. Nice boat, keep up the good work.
By the way, I think you made a great choice in deciding to rebuild this boat for $700.

If the motors are counter rotating, the will be rotating counter to each other regardless of which way the motors are mounted, right? Does it really matter if the starboard motor is rotating clockwise or counter clockwise?

yes it does matter.

COLOBIKER, on that note i would like everyone viewing this thread to turn there attention to my other post in "prop questions" and see if anyone can put my nerves at ease.....

The question is regarding why we raise the outboards on the bracket as we go back from the transom. I fully don?t understand why???, not to mention i am worried that the water pickups on my lower unit are going to be too high....as you look at the photos in my other thread you will see that the last photo shows it best...when you put a straight edge on the hull i find the bottom of the boat falls right in the middle of my water pickups on the lower units.....does this mean the motors are too high? i have a 25 inch set back bracket and i tried to mount my AV plate 5'' higher than the bottom of the hull (relative to where the lower units fall on the hull). With that being said, i fully don?t even understand why i had to do this? And now that the motors are actually on the boat i have found that my AV plate is 6'' above the bottom of the hull, not the 5'' that i was supposed to get "mathematically"= 25'' set back; RATIO 5 to 1 = 5 inches up from bottom of hull, can anyone help explain why the heck we do this and PLEASE tell me the bracket is at the right height!!!!!!!

Colo, to answer your question the motor on the right is trimmed level, while the left motor is trimmed all the way down, just an illusion.

no.....wait .....jserb.....stop......!!!!

the motors go on the pointy end.!

lol....two thunbs up for getting this far !

cant wait to see a pic of your grinning face on the water tryal !

cheers

Hey man, I just finished reading your thread and I just wanted to say that is a sweet looking boat. You did a great job. I am just starting my restoration and I hope mine comes out half as good. I also would have done your project for a $700 hull, good deal.:D

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

Ok..... SO 10 days and counting!

Um an update, the boat is going back in for paint this Thursday till Sunday for some issues I wanted the painter to fix, then it comes BACK to me for the FINAL PUSH to get her all rigged, you haven?t heard from me much for two reasons, 1. iv been busy, and 2. there?s not a whole heck of a lot going on. Its been either snowing or raining and when i do get a chance to work on the boat i have been doing wiring and its not crazy fun to talk to you all about it. I can say I have been slowly mounting hardware, I have buffed out the hull( WOW SHE LOOKS GOOD) and ran all my engine controls out the transom to the motors(But not yet hooked up!). Other than that I have been dieing to get this thing going.

I WILL NOT be painting the outboards this spring, I am going to hold off, ENOUGH work for me these past 8 months (besides it?ll give you something to read about in the fall!). So that I am putting off for now. I have taken my cushions in for repair and the bill looks to be about 450 so that?s not bad at all! Other than that i have this one question!

since we have been getting all this rain and snow, i have obviously put my cover on the boat, HOWEVER it does little good......the thing just absorbs the water and it is useless, NO i dont wanna replace it this year, i know some companies make a spray on water sealer for canvas, have any of you delt with this type of product? can you all recommend what I should use to stop this thing from absorbing all this water!>?!?!

I'd think it would be as simple as going to a camping store and buying the spray for sealing tents...that outta do it just fine for one season.

I'm probably a little late on this but the motors could actually be lower in the water when all is said and done. The whole concept of the off shore engine platform is to keep the props in deep clean water and all but completely eliminate hyper cavitation fouling from the hull of the boat.

With that said, the attitude of the motors at the current distance from the transom should follow the atitude of the boat when on plain. So yes, you might raise them in order to achieve that new straight line from motor cav plate to the point where the bow breaks water when on plane.

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

very appropriate! And they said it couldn't be done!

Now what you have to do is somewhere on the boat, put a little gold bar sticker with 8K imprinted on it ;)

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

6 DAYS! TILL LAUNCH

In order for this to happen i REALLY need you guys to come threw and help me find these items fast! First what to use on my cabin door for a "gasket", Anyone direct me in the right direction?!

Second i am looking for a transom hook, you know the two little stainless hooks that go on the transom, mainly used for tieing the boat to the trailer, or in some cases skiing off of.... I have looked online even here on i boats, i search for them but i dont know the technical term for them so i cant find them?!?!?!

UPDATE: As of right now, the boat is the same as you last saw, so umm yeah you guessed it, a LOT of work this week, to make it even harder its supposed to rain all day today threw Wednesday, so i only have Thursday Friday (after work) Sat, and half of Sunday to get the throttles, steering, props, and wiring done! IT CAN BE DONE I BOATERS I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE BUDGET, BUT I HAVE RIGGED A FEW BOATS AND I KNOW I CAN RUN THREW THIS BOAT IN 4 DAYS AND GET IT SEA WORTHY!

Come Thursday start checking in for photos, you will see a lot changing really fast, The weekend was perfect for getting this work done here but the boat was in the paint shop being fixed for the painters mistakes, IT LOOKS AMAZING, dont worry however! While the boat was in the paint shop i worked on making my starboard parts (the side gunnels rod holders) and cabin door( all of these were teak and i am replacing them) Its coming along guys! A few days and ill have video and a thousand photos of what every inch of the boat looks like, till then, SSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEE YA!
