How ironic.....here is South Florida I can't remember the last time I saw 100* temps.

Swabbie, send me some of that WV stuff, I prefer with cherries.

Re: How hot is it?

They're talking an air temp of over 100? up here today. That's unheard of in the northwoods!! Getting lots of storms too. More tonite I guess. Humidity is "supposed" to kick out after tonite...

Captain, my hillbilly gal from Grafton said she never heard of that. What part of WV hillbilly land are you from?

HUH, never seen 100 in South Florida. Now I know for sure I'm doing something wrong. Today the radio said the air temp was 99, with humidity factored in it felt like (big drum roll), 110. :(:(:(

Are there any any available slips for a little pontoon boat on the island???

Never seen it, lncoop, but I googled it. Looks like something I would enjoy. I think I better pass on the Apple Pie.

My Sis brought me some, Swabbie. It's been around, but is just now gaining alot of popularity. Grafton? Home of Mother's Day. Ever hear of Whitmer?

We reached 100 sometime in the 50's, but that was a little before my time.;)

This is a ghost village in the summer. Plenty of room for your boat. I'm not sure about you, though. :D

Re: How hot is it?

My wife and I went Camping Sunday till Thursday at Gull Lake. Sunday night in the old van with no air conditioning and 3 4x12 inch screened windows for ventilation got pretty stuffy. I finally opted to trade multiple mosquito bites for the chance to hang my nose out an open window and get some warm, but fresh air.

Monday we went to Wally World and acquired a bigger fan (turbo blaster with hold downs and chains), some plastic screen and of course duct tape. It also cooled off about 2 degrees, so with screen taped over all the windows and our hair flying, we stayed cool.

Wednesday, we got driven off the lake by 10 am by the heat. We prepped the camp site for a possible storm, and went to town, spent the heat of the day shopping for a few things we couldn't find, and eating lunch. When we got back, we pulled the covers off the boat and went fishing till dark. Was windy and tough fishing, but we caught a meal and cleaned em for the old folks from Chicago in the next camp site.

Thursday sunrise was actually cool for a change. We launched and motored up the entire length of Gull Lake, and explored a few of the lakes North of it on the chain. Broke camp and came home to more heat.

Oh well, it's Summer. It's supposed to be hot sometimes. It feels hotter than normal because Spring was so cold. The garden is still weeks behind because of all that cold.

Re: How hot is it?

so hot the lake is disappearing:

"Between January and June, the amount of water flowing into the lakes, called inflows, was less than 10 percent of average and is the lowest for any such period dating back to 1942 when LCRA finished construction of Lake Travis. Inflows in June were less than 1 percent of average. "

Less than 1% of average inflows into Lake Travis....boo! 10 more feet and the last public ramp closes.

Re: How hot is it?

I live 30 miles east of Charlotte NC...we have 4 thermometers in different locations around the property...we've had readings anywhere from 100 to 106...WITHOUT the heat index...with the humidity around %70...that puts our heat index at about 110 to 115...AND I LOVE IT!! I had some loose ends to wrap-up on my latest boat project, and some other stuff to do...i spent nearly 5 hrs right out in the blazin' sun...and i loved it, my brother says i must be a reptile..LOL..i hate cold weather, have no use for it...can't go boating when it's 25 degrees...some people can take the heat, some can't...I guess one reason i can tolerate the heat is because im an electrical contractor and quite often, i have to go in peoples attics in this heat to install roof ventilators or wiring for ceiling fans etc...you should experience that heat one time...105 degrees outside feels good compared to that...

I'm the same way monk-monk I hate cold weather because it HURTS...hot weather may be uncomfortable but it don't hurt. I live 60 miles east of Charlotte and I too was once an electrical and HVAC contractor so I can relate to being in attics in this kind of heat. I have spent all day in attics running ductwork....I would sometimes eat my lunch in the attic because the transition from hot to cool and then back to hot was too much to bear. With a fan and plenty of water I could acclimate myself to the heat.
