My engine is a 1996 3.0 LX ( GM inline 4 cylinder ) serial #F553706, outdrive(Alpha 1)#OF530668. The only stamped #'s I could find on the carb anywhere were 25924A-1 and just below that # was 4Y03. Now from looking in stickies using those #'s I didn't find anything anywhere similar. I also looked all over the air horn for any stampings but to no avail. Can someone set me straight before early spring.

Re: Carb # for rebuild kit

did you find that number on the mercarb 2bbl underneath the fuel inlet on the float bowl?

assuming that's where the number came from, w/o looking up the part. i'd think that the long number is the part number. the short number would be 4= 1994, y=nov., 03= day of the month.

this info can be found in s/m 13, pp. 5B1...

Re: Carb # for rebuild kit

Ziggy thanx for the reply but the number I fonund on the float bowl doesn't resemble any part numer in the manual I only found a 7 idgit # on my carb and all the numbers listed in the sm are 8 digit. Do you suppose there was at one time a i.d. plate on the carb witht the approprieate #'s that is missing? I'm the second owner. By the way I saw the pics of your boat on the boat names post and I personally think it's a classic I love the color and it's always cool to be different.

Re: Carb # for rebuild kit

well, i'm about to be no help as i have only one idea left. i went and looked at the parts book for your carb. i agree, looks confusing and your number don't show up best i could tell. next step i guess. maybe post up a pick of the numbers so others that know more than me can see where they come from. to me it sounds like your looking in the right place though. or. have ya gone to yer local mercruiser dealer and ask them for a kit? if they don't like your numbers, they'll tell ya. or they'll supply you with the right rebuild kit.. hope it works out for ya..

thanks for the compliment on my boat too..

Simple take off the carb go down to the nearest merc dealer with it and let them hook you up with the proper kit.

Simple easy no fuss no muss and you will have the right kit.

Good luck!

Re: Carb # for rebuild kit

Firstly the serial number for the engine comes up as a 1995, not 1996. That said the Merc number for the carb gasket kit is 3302-810929 and the needle and seat is 3302-9029.

Thanx Achris ! The date I posted was the date on my title to my boat but I do appricieate the info. I do have 1 ? do I have to purchase 2 seperate kits (gasket and card plus needle and seat). Also I looked on the mercruiser fuel part section here on IBOATS and could not find a number match to get a price is this the best place to look? not being lazy but advise and info is the best way to become more self reliant and help to others .

Re: Carb # for rebuild kit

Achris I contacted a local Merc dealer this morning and it seems that the carb in question is definately a Merc part only. That is if you want it to last and be done with quality parts but I did also learn the kit I looked into does include the needle and seat ($71.00). Is there anyone out there had any success with the Seloc kits? and are they worth it for the price. I think $71.00 for a carb kit is a little excessive especially for a 2 barrel at any rate I appricieate all the info and help.

FF, are we talking Rochester 2 bbl. here?
If so, the kit should be no more than $25, although I've never knowingly purchased a Mercury brand kit.

Re: Carb # for rebuild kit

The $71.00 kit I had metioned in my previous post was a Merc rebuild kit. Napa here in my Ohio town could not access the kit at all, Autozone in my area well I'd be better off asking my 9 yrold. And yes I believe it is a Rochester and does run away mean don't even botherwith the afore mentioned Siera kits? I guess I will keep looking.

Well Chiefalen your a good man. I did not exspect someone to do the work for me but I do thank you!. And can hope to someday return the favor. The site you gave me will be very usefull for watching my pennies and others if they use it that would be a great idea for something like stickies in this forum all the best part resource web sites for people willing to do thier own repairs and maintenance.

Re: Carb # for rebuild kit

Your a sweet talker don't throw anything away from the kit after your done, sometimes they come with double or triple gaskets and you could use them latter in a few years, if you find the carb gets dirty again.

You want clean mating surfaces of the carb, when you go to put it back together.

Clean means NOTHING on the surfaces.

GOOD LUCK !

Re: Carb # for rebuild kit

For anyone else out there with this same carb it is not a Rochester it is a Mercury. Rochesters have 2 idle mixture srews and this Mercarb has only 1 (fyi). I would also like to know why Merc would not just stamp the I.D. # right onto the carb instead of using a I.D. plate which on mine is missing. The previous owner bought this craft new and it only had about 100 hours on it in 2000 when aquired it. But we live and learn.
