Re: How hot is it?

That's right bigdee...hot weather may be uncomfortable at times, but it doesn't hurt...thats funny, but correct....my toes have never been so hot, that they hurt, but they have been so cold that they hurt...toes, nose. finger-tips etc, all my digits have been nearly frozen, and that hurts...AND, unless it snows, where you can get out and sled ride...the rest of the time outdoors is useless...unless you like trudging around in the mud, because of a cold rain at 34 degrees, which, quite often happens around here in the winter...basically, i think Winter is a complete waste of about 4 months of my life every year...SERIOUSLY...if Al Gore ever gets this "global warming issue" under control...I'll have to move 600 miles spouth just to stay warm...LOL...

Re: How hot is it?

has it cooled down everywhere else?...107 here yesterday, forecast of 107 today.

yesterday was our 16th straight day of triple-digit temperatures and 48th of the year. we had 68 days in 2009, the record is 69 triple-digit days set in 1925.

salty, it would be really great if you posted your location. :)

sorry, took that down a while ago and can't remember why......austin, tx

here's a video of pedernales river and lake travis from 2 weeks ago. mostly docks sitting in the dirt now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPe9aGMEpB4&feature=player_embedded

the islands at the end normally barely break the surface in the middle of summer (now). they've been exposed since May, waiting for trees to grow.

Current (noon) temp at The Hideout is 104*. Forecast for today is 111*.

Last day that it didn't exceed 100* here was June 5.

EDIT: Oh, excuse me. Did I get this back on topic??

Well, it aint that hot here. I did build some pre-engineered buildings for bomb storage in Sasebo, Japan in the eighties with 2 story berms all around.....And I remember reading the mercury at 8:00am at 110 degrees. When we bent down to pick something up our pants would wring the sweat on demand. On the the ride back to the Seabee Base our green utilities would dry nearly white. So with the humity oh say 70-80 percent and the lack of a breaze, and working on steel and welding and cutting.......shucks it must of ranked an INDEX of 140 degrees..those were actually great memories. Al Gore eat your heart out. And I hope you Texans get some rain..

I really feel for you Texas guys.

We've had almost 20 consecutive days above 90 but we're also 17" above normal for rainfall. I wish I could send some your way. All in all pretty much a typical summer for us, except for the rain.

Re: How hot is it?

I'm melted.................

Out all day in the heat playing with my 21 yr. old automotive student employee.

Today it was 112 deg. with the humidity factored in. When did they come up with this humidity factor stuff??? , when I was a kid we didn't have it.

I know you "tough" Texas guys are laughing, but we're on our knee's here. :D:(

Re: How hot is it?

Right, swabbie, but we aren't laughing at you. It is very dry here, so the THI is just a degree or two over the temp. Today it got to 114* at The Hideout and the THI was only 116*.

I went out to the P.O. and my sweat evaporated so fast that my shirt didn't even get wet. Have to drink about a gallon of water or Gatorade a day

The most miserable I ever was was S. Florida when it was in the high 90s. Went out the door and my glasses fogged before I got to the car, went to the supermarket and my car windows were fogged up when I came back out. Took a deep breath and dang near drowned. About the same on Guam.

A humid THI of 100* is a lot harder to take than a dry 116*.

Re: How hot is it?

Here in the last few weeks, we had highs of 100, week or so of 90's and low mid 80's this week - perfect, and the pool helps too :)

Re: How hot is it?

Its taking until about 10pm for the temp to come down into double digits here. And no its really not that bad to work in as long as you keep hydrated. But just let me say this, I have traveled a bit in my life and out in New mexico/Arizona/utah/nevada/california etc 115 is a vacation for a south texas person. That dry heat is so wonderful! When its 105 along the gulf coast, that would darn near kill some western folks. Much less the 110 plus lately.

Welcome to my world JB. 101 as we speak without any heat index stuff, and it is about to rain to boot.
I picked a great day to do a 12lb Texas beef brisket on the BBQ....

Re: How hot is it?

Hot and dry here too. Lake is fading away AGAIN. Weather guessers keep forecasting 60 to 70% chance of rain daily and it never rains on my home. Hit and miss everywhere else. I think it has been a month since we had rain that amounted to anything. Then there is extremely hot temps that never seem to go away despite Accuweather saying they will in August. Highs 97 to 99 through Tuesday with dew points making it feel way over 100. So combine no rain with high evaporation, COE drainage then you have big trouble for the Lake(s).
Our typical summer usually contains short term heat waves and short term dry spells but this is ridiculous. Things have been building toward this for the past 10 years. Increasing amount of heat and drought. I hope the trend ends before I go insane haha

I have been keeping up with the Texas heatwave/ drought debacle. You are in worse shape than we are in SC. I don't think anything will save us except a Hurricane . Some want to kill hurricanes/tropical storms but they are the only defense against droughts. The gulf of Mexico seems to be dead where moisture is concerned

Re: How hot is it?

Yep, I haven't checked recently, but there was only one ramp open on Lake Travis a few weeks ago and if the water dropped anymore, I think they were saying they would close it too. The Blanco River has stopped flowing and is bedrock in stretches of it. I haven't seen a good shower in maybe four months. Forecast for the past three weeks has been 100+ and sunny.
