Jim, that started a few weeks ago, including the guy that was adamant that he needed to add AF to his outboard.

You doon't need AF for an outboard???? I always run mine in a barrel of anti-freeze to get that all through the inside of the engine and make sure all water is out before putting away!;):eek::D:lol:

Wow! I missed that thread! Guess my "joke" wasn't far off!

RTFM used to be a common response.

Now it's I can't find a free manual, which I don't understand. Peeps will drop thousands for boat and balk at spending a hundred bucks on a book that can help protect the large investment.

I think it's worse with shoestring boaters when a manual purchase could be a sizeable percentage of the boat value and that's true. But put that against the cost of replacement motor, lower unit or outdrive - Then the manual is a cheap investment.

BTW, they dont want to pay for manuals even if they are only $5

been trying to sell manuals for old OMC stern drives, etc as well as manuals for 1960s-1987 GM vehicles as well as Audi and VW manuals on ebay now for about a year.

Aspeck, if you want to spend $3k on a 55 gallon drum of AF, have at it. the rest of us simply let them drain.....lol

the guy was adamant that since West Marine sold a 5 gallon AF kit for outboards it was required. the issue is he wasnt a newbie... https://forums.iboats.com/forum/eng...ards/10638106-winterizing-90-hp-mariner-motor

Wow.

Thank you for posting that link - I missed that whole thread somehow. And honestly, it makes me feel a lot better about the dumb questions I ask. I can now say "well, at least my question wasn't 'antifreeze in an outboard' dumb...."

The anti-freeze thread reminds me of an old one where the poster was showing off his old motor while running with no water.Called all of us idiots for warning him that he was putting his motor at risk of water impeller failure etc.

is it wrong to assume people have the basic understanding of the otto cycle as used in the 4-stroke motor. this concept seams lost on some of the new posters.

Happens everywhere. Just when I think I've seen it all, I find a new level has been reached. And I've seen a lot being in IT.

I see the same in some of the shooting forums and on similar fb groups. Some mods get on them immediately.

We try but we can't look at all the threads. Flag 'em when you see 'em - We'll take care of them.

We appreciate the extra eyes and help. Thanks guys.
