Jay,

I have watched many of your youtube videos and I admit I'm perplexed at your boat working time. Either you're rich and don't have to work or the family only gets to see you when at the lake! LOL

I will tell you, that watching you work and having the same questions I have, gives me encouragement to continue doing as much as I can before I give my boat to the mechanic!

Love your work and attitude and will continue to watch in amazement, as my days over here in The Colony seem to be WAY SHORTER than in Frisco!

Keep up the awesome postings. Photos always make it 1000x better as usual.

Honestly, I have only been on this during the week about 5 days in six months. Most of the time it is during the weekends, and my family wants this done more than I do. I also own my own company and this is my slow time of year for projects, so I am taking advantage of it.

Hey Jay, I have seen you mention many times about useing pb to glue things together. I cant seem to find anywhere what the formula is to make it. and what is the advantage to using that over PL which I know is a constrution adhesive. Thanks for the great posts and advise

Jeremy.

Jay
Those motor mounts do look like they would be a PITA to glass but as always you did a fine job at it! I'm getting lucky on mine... They are solid 4x4 blocks sitting on one of the stepouts. Can't get much simpler that that. Great work as always!

Great work as usual Jay. That is going to be the toughest built Sea Ray ever. I especially like the videos on the mechanical parts. Great info and very informative.

Looking great Jay as always. I keep watching your progress, and showing the wife, she shakes her head and is happy we did not venture down that road with the Lund. Althoug she seen the prop pics and the exhaust ones and with a dumbfounded look asked me if I was telling you what to buy since we have the same things on ours.

I know you will like the thru hull exhaust such a nice tone when the boat is on plane, and then being able to shut it off is nice too......well until the wife starts babbling again........lol, just kidding.

I was looking around on some of the other threads and saw one where a guy bought premixed PB. It came in a gallon(?) can. Didn't say how expensive it was.

Go man go. So are you just about finished with the glass work? That would be cause for celebration.

I 3rd (or 4th?) replacing those senders now. If those are '95s you'll be doing it sooner than you think.

That pin is nasty. I think Mercruiser designs that area to fail. I mean a square steel shaft precision fit into an aluminum ring, high load area, in the water with current flowing through it. And with no real access to the nut once everything is bolted back together. Designed to fail and take about 8-10 hours of shop labor to repair. Notice that GLM and Sierra don't make the parts. They're probably not licensed to do so. I wonder how JR gets around the patent? By the way, for those who don't know, that ring is about $550 and the pin is $400+. JR Marine suggest to torque the 2 pinch bolts no more than 50 ft lbs once a year. If you let it get loose, you'll have sloppy, unsafe steering.

Stepping off my soapbox now. Sorry about the rant Jay. As an engineer myself, that kind of stuff gets me all worked up.

Jay- first, thanks for your videos and this tread, I have the same boat built in '93, with the very same problems (except the transom I hope), you have saved me countless hours and mistakes.

I have a few questions as I went through the videos and this thread:

1. How did you allow for water to get out of the front seat wells? The original had a small hole the size of a pencil that was buried by the carpet and leaked down to the stringer below it.

2. I noticed you didn't put an access hole for the gas tank wires- why? no need?

3. When you made the engine mounts, did you PL them together? I'll look at the video again but it was unclear.

4. Do you have to grind down the whole bottom to install the stringers or just the area that will be glassed?

I started a thread about my boat Here: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=492017

It is god to see another Sea Ray 220 here. Good questions.

1. I just did that today. I drilled two 5/8" holes in each well in the back to drain into the storage lockers under the helm. I then drilled three of the same holes in the bulkhead at the back of that locker to drain to the deck. Nothing goes below. I will be putting those dry deck lats down that will keep my gear off the deck and allow water to flow under them.

2. Actually I did. My sender, fill, and pickup are at the back and I have a little relief cut to allow access to them.

3. I used Peanut Butter. It is faster. the PL takes forever to cure.

4. I touched every square inch of that hull

Done. Two part foam from Aero Marine. I have a video or two of it.

Awesome work as always Jay... Once again, watching your videos just get my mind to working and probably helps me in ways I can't even ponder yet. Either way I decide to go, I'll probably be re-building a gimbal and transom assembly soon as well, so thanks again...

Nice work Jay, I'm curious to get a first hand look at the rolled on gel-coat.....I might think about that for my anchor locker if I ever get to it! Looks like you are making great progress!

Hey Jay, Thanks for all the information and sharing your project with us. I stumbled upon your thread a few weeks ago when I was looking for some pointers on repairing this old Starcraft I have. I had no clue what I was up against at that time, but now I feel very confident that I can do it. It was pretty cool watching the progress unfold and I just got all caught up yesterday. The past 47 pages of posts, pictures and video did a great job of distracting me from actual work while at work LOL! Looking forward to seeing the beast completed.

Yes Jay you put on a good show, you need a sponsor and a time slot and I am sure many would tune in to watch. Seems like with me it is, work on my boat or anything else, take a break and check in and see if Jay's Ray is on or do I have to watch a re-run.......lol.

Really???? I feel like an idiot talking to the camera, and I my neighbors must think I am a nut.

My wife came up with another cool name for the boat. "OverHulled"
