Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

Thanks so much for all the well wishes guys. I thought I would stop buy and bring everyone up to speed, as I just got some more info. Apparently it is not just a matter of going home to rest, as you have to go through alot of paper work and other red tape to go home. My Dad spent all day preparing for the transport home, which in itself is a major issue. They have to do it by ambulance, and it is a big production. My Dad went home this evening to prepare their room in the house for the hospital bed, and get everything in order. She will then go home tomorrow and hospice will meet us there and give us a rundown I suppose.

I have made piece with the fact that my mother is going to be with the Lord. She and I had a long talk a few weeks back, and I know this is for the best. My kids are the ones that cannot grasp what is going on.

I will keep you guys up to date, as you are my boat family.

A little bit of happy boat news. The Corsa Exhaust was in a bog box on my doorstep when I got home today.

I am thinking more of a Maternal or therapeutic name now. I know this boat is going to help me and my Dad heal after this is over. He and I both LOVE the water, and working on things together.

Kinda weird how things work out huh?

A name that popped in my head was "Life's Therapy"

Sorry for the rambling, but my brain is poo right now.

Good to hear from you Joe! That boat sure looks good. Was your avatar picture taken off the stern on the new boat?

Thanks for the kind words.

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

Hey guys, got a little update. I spent all day at my parents house yesterday, and helped my dad get mom situated. Hospice gave us an orientation of what to do, and then I spent alot of time talking with Mom. She is very lucid and in great spirits, and if you did not know what was going on, you would wonder if she is sick. She told me all of her wishes, and what needs to be done for her funeral. I cannot tell you guys how at peace I am with this. There comes a time in treatment when you just say "enough is enough" and we cannot do anything else.

So today I am going to let other people be there, and then go back over there tomorrow. We do not want her to feel overwhelmed.

Jay
I, like many others, have been sitting back watching and reading about perfection in the works. My comments on your achievements would be redundant. As to your Mom, my deepest sympathies. I went through a similar experience with my Dad a number of years ago. I was not able to spend the time I wished I had with him at the end because of the 2000 miles between us. Spend as much time with her as you can. Nothing replaces family. You may seem at peace now, but the end will hit you just as hard unfortunately. Hang in their brother. Your boating family awaits your return.

Jay,
This has very little to do with repairing boats, rather it is what the iBoats Forums are all about... Sharing ideas, thoughts and methods for this crazy hobby we've found ourselves in.

You have not only been an inspiration for us do-it-yourselfers but you have also opened up your project to all of us watching in awe. I'm certain most of the people following this thread are like me and look forward to seeing the latest progress. Of course once we see it, we sit back in our chairs and say, "Damn this guy is GOOD!". (or something like that).

The reason I bring forward the obvious, is to say that your parents should be very proud of a job well done on their part. I really wish this world had more people like you, I salute your folks for bringing you into the world. I just love it when I find people who are not just out for themselves. The time you've spent sharing your videos and progress, not to mention the entertaining narration has been great. Thanks for sharing Jay, and may God bless your entire family. I'm keeping good thoughts for your family, especially your children.

Thank you so much, your Mom can be proud of a job well done...

Sincerely,
Nick

J - so sorry to hear about your Mother.....my prayers are with you!

To add to your list of possible boat names:

Momma's Boy (Not sure if you have other siblings)

See You There or "Sea" You There - Meaning: The sweet reunion you and your dad will someday have with your mother in the great beyond.

God Bless......

Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration

Thanks for the kind words guys. It is nice to know you have friends behind you. I hope everyone had a great Father's day. All things considered, mine was awesome. The kids and the first mate took me out to a point at the lake and we had breakfast. She knows me well. Nothing soothes me like the water. We then went over and spent most of the day with my parents and family. Mom is much weaker than Friday, but still awake, alert, and cracking jokes. I really think she wanted to have Fathers day with us all there, but I know it drained her. Towards the end of the day she fell asleep and slept for hours. That usually does not happen. She said today that she was "deliriously happy" being at home with all the family. It was a good day.

I got a little work done yesterday. I needed to get my mind off things, so I painted the outdrive. I used Valspar Enamel from tractor supply and hardener with it. Man does it look good. I will upload pictures and video tomorrow.

Jay, I am one of the many silient followers of this thread. It's impossible to share how much you have helped all of us and how much we appreciate the time you take to share your adventure with us so I won't try.

I am sad to hear about your Mom and will say a special prayer for you and your family. I can't wait to see what the boat name ends up being.

Attended a funeral Saturday. Close friend mother passed. Wife wrote her a note telling her all the things she is going to miss now she is gone.
Make a list of all the things you are going to miss and.....don't miss them tape it write it down video tape whatever so you have that tangible memory you can return to for comfort.
PM me,,,,,, I am not that far away and I will host you and your wife on my boat.....my wife lost her dad and understands how tough the loss is. although this is a virtual environment you can still and do still touch people.
Anyhow my thoughts and prayers for your family.....

Very sorry to hear this Jay. I went through the same thing just over 3 years ago with my mother. I can't say enough for the palliative care nurses and Dr's. These people are saints.
It helped me a lot when I had my talk with my mom too...she was a lot stronger through it then I was.
I think the name you chose would be very fitting.
Take care my friend.
