Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration
Your a serious inspiration to us do it yourselfers! You do great work Jay! I was wondering, did the PO that sold you the boat ever fess up to knowing anything about the condition of the deck? Did he refund anything to help cover the cost of the rebuild? Just curious, didnt see it addressed since one of the first couple of videos... But your doin great! Keep it up, yer almost there!
Nothing ever happened with the PO. I talked with him once and then he never returned any calls after that. We talked to an attorney and he said that in SC, TX and many other states have a law that can fight this type of thing. The problem is that it would have cost me more than the boat is worth, and the guy filed for Bankruptcy soon after. So I dropped it.
The law is pretty cool. It goes by how you represent the boat (or car) in your advertisement. Not sure all the details, but you do have rights as a buyer.
the videos are my favorite part of this build. very very informative and considering I do most of my browsing at work (lunch break only I promise
) and most picture sites are blocked...youtube vids are a savior when reading how people did things.
its helped me with several glassing issues in the past personally.
I am glad I could help.
Jay,
Are you doing the gel coat yourself?
You made quick work of the repairs! You have more energy than I sir.
And you glass in shorts! I'd have resin all over my legs. lol
Excellent workmanship, your nearly done!
Yes, I am going to roll it in in three coats. Glassing in shorts in not that bad. Duck tape works great for removing fiberglass from your skin.
Keep up the great work, not long now before the Big Splash! (Don't forget to put the drain plug in!!!). Just starting my project. Afraid to walk on the deck of my Sea Ray (in case I might find a soft spot!). Following you on You Tube.
I saw a 96 230 today when I was driving around. I stopped in and took a look at it. Guess what? It had two large soft spots.
The thing is about these Sea Ray boats, is that the hull is really thick. Most people will not know that the thing is rotten until water actually comes up through the deck. I honestly think all these boats will do this. That is why IF, and I stress IF, I ever buy another boat, it will be composite.
