BTW - is the underlayment variety of plywood made with exterior rated glue ? I checked the markings on the wood in my boat and it was exterior rated, but not sure if it is marine grade or just a good grade of exterior. Stringers are 1/2" and the bulkheads are 3/4".

Appreciate all the info guys. Was getting into materials because I want to get to the project but it's just to cold to do any resin work. Guess since I have to wait for warmer weather I'll wait on the VE. Thought about installing my old wood burning furnace but the MSDS indicates flammability of 3 for the resin, might not be prudent. Will reduce my CSM and add 1708 type. Looks like I got the two mixed up, 1708 is the strong stuff and CSM build up material.

Figure I do have some filling to do but won't be doing any filling under the stringers or bulkheads. Was thinking of using some PB to fill voids between engine room and aft cabin bulkhead, since will use the old wood. Might also need some of it to fill voids between the and new transom wood. On OSO one guy mentioned using a 3M product to glue the new transom to the glass instead or PB or resin. Still figuring on how to make a step for the 2 layers of 3/4 ply.

Will see what kind plywood is available or can be ordered. .

Yes, ALL underlayment plywood uses 100% waterproof glue. Due to it's intended usage the MFG uses this type of glue since it's implied that it WILL get wet!!! Mopping, Potential Plumbing leaks, Spills etc...;)

Hey, AllDodge . . .

Happy 2015 :)

Wondering if you made any progress with the transom, stringer and tank work.

Happy 2015 right back at ya

Made little progress, just been to cold for this guy. I do plan to go get the plywood, sanding disk, grinder and other stuff. Have not been enthusiastic about doing a lot more since it's been so cold. Will be doing something in the next couple weeks with cutting out the new wood.

Well the new tank came in and it has a couple extra fittings and they changed the fill neck a bit. They make one tank for gas and diesel so the two extras are return lines for the diesel. Now with my rebuild there will be a gas return so bye bye vapor lock.

Thanks WOG and Ted

Ted, Know what you mean about the snow in your area. Have a Niece in the Newtown area and she is talking about the snow also

Getting close to start again and here is my shopping list at US Composites I have so far, did I miss anything?

Foam-0416 - 16lb kit 4 cu ft - 67.00 - 2 each = 134.00
FG-2050 - 2 oz CSM 10 yards - 3.95 yd = 39.50
FG-170850 - bi-axel - 5 yards - 8.25 yd = 41.25
SM-700500 - 5 gal - VE resin - 179.50 = 179.50 figure start here and get more as I move along
SM-MEKP080 - 8oz MEPK hardener = 5.60 extra
FR-1213A 3/8 x 3 long roller - 6.70 - 1 each = 6.70
FR-1223A 1/2 x 3 long roller - 6.70 - 1 each = 6.70

Thanks Scott, forgot to mention that I have picked up large and small measuring cups, buckets, stir sticks. Remembered I need to get some cabosil or some kind of thicker

Is there a reason for the 2oz CSM? Why 3" bubble rollers? Are you working in a confined space?

3" rollers - After watching the last fiberglass link you posted I thought that is what I should use. The guy used what looked like a 3 inch long skinny roller. The stringer sides will be 3 to 4in high up to 12in high. Deck and transom will be kind of large. Taping between stringer corners could be tight a couple spots.

2oz CSM - This was mentioned to use on the transom (actually 1.5oz) and deck. Also plan to order 2 yards of 1.5oz CSM for bonding transom

Here is my latest revised list. Found the place changes an extra 25.00 to ship 5 gal pails, and also gallons would be easier to use and to keep sealed. Getting so max to add to Gelcoat for final coat, also styrene to thin it a bit (so the site has discussed). Getting the talc to use for my skin and maybe some thickening

Foam-0416 - 16lb kit 4 cu ft - 67.00 - 2 each = 134.00
FG-2050 - 2 oz CSM 50in 10 yards - 3.95 yd = 39.50
FG-10538 - 1.5 oz CSM 38in 2 yards - 2.75 yd = 5.50
FG-170850 - 1708 bi-axel - 5 yards - 8.25 yd = 41.25
SM-700100- VE resin gallon- 4 gal - 45.50 = 182.00
SM-MEKP040 - 4oz MEPK hardener = 3.75
FR-1213A 3/8 x 3 long roller - 6.70 - 1 each = 6.70
FR-1223A 1/2 x 3 long roller - 6.70 - 1 each = 6.70
FL-AER050 Cabosil 5 QT = 7.60
SM-TAL01 - Talc 5 pound = 6.25
GEL-W100 1 Gal Gelcoat = 44.75
SM-STY010 - Styrene - Pt = 4.30
SM-SWAX02 - surface wax - 2oz = 2.35

Ok, My personal opinion. Don't think you need 2oz mat. 1.5oz should be more than adequate for all your needs. Again, my personal preference is the 5" bubble roller for doing a large flat surface like a transom or a deck. A 3" is good for stringers and fillets etc... I would NOT use Talc as a thickening agent for Poly or VE resin. Both are Hydroscopic and can/will overtime absorb water and talc will too. You can use Talc with Epoxy but not so much with Poly based resin. Cabosil is the way to go. I'd recommend starting off with a 4 gal order of cabosil. Anwhoooo that's my take on what you should order, but that's just me so go with what you thinks best.;)

Keep in mind that attachment of stringers and bulkheads to the hull in the Formula's is a bit different than other boats and the methods we typically see on this forum. If you plan to be consistent with the existing construction, that my mean you need less filler materials, as the stringers and bulkhead won't need any.

Good point Ted, I won't be using any filler between the deck and stringers, will be air only, or fiber from both sides coming in under the wood.

Yea, I did something like this, because I saw an issue with leaving the under side of the stringer uncovered with something.
