Re: Florida South Georgia Boaters need a party
Re: Florida South Georgia Boaters need a party
OK folks, it appears we have a date - June 21, 22, 23. I have cleared out my messages so, as you decide you're going to join us, PM me for directions, etc.
Friday, June 21 - Bonfire at my home in Eastpoint. Dark will come around 8:30pm EDT. I will have a Low Country Boil for all. Bring a chair and any other items you deem "necessary". If you're towing a rig it's probably best to drop it at your accommodation location before getting here (my street is a cul-de-sac). Feel free to come over as soon as you arrive; it's gonna happen as it happens. I'll have nav charts to review and discuss for our final plans for Saturday. I will share some fishing spots for inshore and offshore anglers as well as give guidance for those that want to sightsee/cruise. I'll show you all the launches that are close to your accommodation and/or desired activity on Saturday.
Saturday, June 22 - (sunrise is about 5:30am EDT) No matter what folks want to do in the AM, I think everyone would enjoy an afternoon on Little St. George Island. So, I'll suggest we plan to have a cookout at "The Cut" on the eastern tip. You can enjoy beachfront and bayfront activities from one spot. There is an excellent area on the northeast corner of the island that offers calm, shallow waters for anchorage and a wide flat sandy beach for relaxing and fellowship. (REMEMBER, IF YOU DON'T BRING IT, YOU WON'T HAVE IT!) The Cut is about 7 mi from launches on SGI and in Apalach so any watercraft can easily reach it ("Stick on a Flea"!). If the weather is wrong for safe activities on the bay, we can always revise this to happen up river on a sandbar (still nice, just not as much to see and do).
Sunday, June 23 - I am going to make a SWAG that some folks will be sleeping in and/or will want to head home, so I'll leave it open to the group to decide what will happen. I"m game for whatever!
THINGS TO KNOW:
Groceries: 1 small grocery in Eastpoint, 2 large stores in Apalach and 2 small stores on SGI. Dollar Generals in Apalach and Eastpoint. I mention this as there are NO Walmarts, malls, or any major stores of any kind (heck, there's only one stoplight in the whole county).
Gas: No E gas is available in Eastpoint and Apalach ONLY (not on SGI)
LEOs: The FCSO is your friend; FHP is a hawk. Please make sure that all registrations (tow, trailer, boat) are current and WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS! FWC and USCG will be actively patrolling the waters, so be prepared there as well ("coastal waters" equipment).
ATMs: abundant in all locations
Adult Beverages: 1, each, on SGI and in Eastpoint and Apalach.
Misc/Other: sorry, no theatres, bowling allies, skating rinks, arcades, etc.
I'm discussing a flounder "gigging" outing with a friend who just got a really well-equipped rig. This could happen Friday and/or Saturday night (LATE); we'll see what happens.
Anyone else with ideas/comments?
