but it ends in Hamster in a cast
Not in the drag race portion. He gets airlifted out after crashing in a hill climb event later on.

I saw a follow-up show where he said that he escaped with a broken leg. Lucky, lucky.

How about our flailing electric grid. It can barely handle it's present load. We need to make major improvements before we get too far into these electric vehicles.

Then there's the obvious.....we'll be using more fuel at the power plants, coal, natural gas, nuclear. They hate nuclear, so it's probably more coal and natural gas. Admittedly, there's still hydro-electric plants. Wind and solar are horrible. Maybe they will improve.
Some of these idiots think the electricity comes out of thin air. Just plug it in. They think they are carbon zero.

Then, what is the environmental impact in producing the batteries?
And disposing of the old ones?

What will be the cost to replace the batteries? Most manufacturers have 100,000 mile warranty. What if you drive over that mark? Are you willing to pay 10, 15, 20 grand for new batteries?
If not, are you going to trash a vehicle that's basically ok otherwise? Will the landfills be full of perfectly good vehicles with dead batteries?

There are places ready to build more dams for hydro-electric plants.-----But 100 years from now folks might say " we need fish to eat , not cheap electricity "------And you are right the average human knows very little about the grid and what it takes to run it.------So if an electric car runs for 3 hrs with power consumption = to 20 HP then somewhere 20 HP must be put into the grid for 3 hrs to recharge the battery.----Then do the conservative math 10,000,000 electric cars for 3 hrs every day.

there are many square kilometers in europe of just such "graveyards" of electric cars with dead batteries

there are hundreds acres in Portugal that are being used as lithium waste fields which will eventually poison the drinking water of the entire country

recycling lithium is currently about double the cost of raw mining and refining. so there is no incentive to recycle lithium waste. not until the amount of Raw lithium, Cobalt and Nickel become scarce will there truly be recycling

then again, recycling e-waste in general costs too much and less than 16% is actually recycled. most is shipped to 3rd world countries where it is piled up in mountains of trash

its sad when a 1950's car with zero emissions control is greener and has a smaller carbon footprint than todays vehicles, yet the perception is 180 degrees from it.

Fake news….

I suspect this is fake news as well. Google turns up nothing about waste fields, only articles on pending mining operations

“Portugal is believed to sit on some of Europe's biggest lithium deposits and as a result has been picked for Europe's biggest lithium mining and treatment plant.”

Interesting paper on the development of new processes to recycle lithium battery components
