Hi gt my plan is deck and all other horizontal areas I am putting 17 oz woven and all vertical areas smooth as I can get them. I plan on getting it on there and sand and buff a little at a time while using the boat

If you intend on being able to sand it soon after it's "kicked", then I say yes...without the wax, it will remain tacky & gum up your sandpaper. If you don't plan on sanding for a few days & have a good hot sun, maybe you'd be ok, but at the pace your keeping, don't think you have time to wait...

That is the issue friderday. Thank You Can I use the wax that came with my gel coat or do I need specific for resin . Also could I use bondo brand from the depot or should I stay away from that

The wax I use is the same for gel and/or resin...just surfacing wax. I made my faring compound out of microballoons, a bit of cabosil in some spots, and resin. I ALWAYS added wax so that I could begin sanding it within 30 minutes of application. Because the faring is most often a multi-step process, where you still may see a low spot here and there after applying the first coat, the surfacing wax allowed me to keep right at it in short order until a smooth surface was achieved. I say yes to wax....especially when sanding is in my near future.

minch, the more fairing you do, you'll learn to try and keep your ridges to a minimum. It'll really help when it comes to sanding time. The thinner you can make your mix the better. It has to stick on the vertical panels and not run off but still be thin enuf to spread easy and smooth out without leaving large ridge line. It takes a while to learn how to find the happy medium but you'll get there. Neatness counts when it comes to fairing!!!;)

So I sanded with 80 grit do I need to go finer for gel coat? Can I acetone bath the fairing compound for touch ups and before gel? I still have to do inside corners but I am getting there

That's what I did. Wipe down with acetone real good once, then a second time with a clean cloth and acetone.

Wow, bro! what an awesome accomplishment!
That woven looks like it is going to give a nice finished texture...can't wait to see it all gelled:thumb:

That's great coverage for just one coat. It took me 4 yesterday, but I do thin at 10% with styrene. Looks good. You will know when your about there. Just remember wax in the last coat (or 2), back to back. If it dries too much between waxed coats you would need to rough n scuff. Unwaxed coat will stay sticky for a bit, but I like to do it all in one shot. Did you roll or spray? Agree with Gus, the woven texture looks good. Keep in mind also, the more coats you put down, the woven will fill in & get not so textury...(meaning slippery)!
