This is ridiculous. Didn't y'all go to high school? What's the sense of roughing it to get an approximation?

C = (F-32)5/9

F = (C+9/5) + 32

Yes, those are the EXACT conversion formula.

Very few of us need to know the exact conversion to the 3 significant figures. 'About' is good enough, so what I gave was the Q&D version, so people who don't carry calculators around in their pockets can get a sense of what the temperature is in the 'other' scale. It'll be a few degrees either way at the extremes, but for the average Joe, it work just fine. Take it or leave it....

I guess its the Engineer in me. I can't understand why someone would want to know something and then be satisfied with the wrong answer.

"Close" only applies to horseshoes and hand grenades.

EVERYONE has a calculator in their pocket. Every tweeter comes with one standard. Regardless, googling "xF=C" gives the correct answer in seconds, with no need to have to mentally make a calculation.

But who cares? Went out in my Son's "yacht" yesterday, first boatride of the year. Had to use a muddy unimproved ramp, which ain't easy for a 25 footer.

Got my launch permit today, the officials say the docks are going in tomorrow. Be out in the river Tuesday. The water is now at 42 F, or is it C, I forget. Still too cold for skinnydipping. Life is good.

You need a launch permit ?

My township has 3 parks with boat launches. Six lanes in each. Parking for 60 cars. Floating docks, daily maintenance by park's personnel and 24 hour surveillance by the police. Maintenance even includes washing down the docks if an errant goose walks by. In the olden days on a Sunday the lot was full. Now sparse attendance after they put on a fee.

I can drive 1 mile away to a county ramp for free. Goose poop on the docks and a lot full of yahoos that try to launch broken boats without a clue.

Yes, I need a permit. $30 a year. Best money I ever spent.

I always thought the optimum beer temperature was 45 F., with a certain +- range. 32 is too close to having ice on the head.
