I am installing bearing, But I cannot find the oil hole. Is that new style without hole? Also which side should be engie side. or it does not matter?
Slots face forward, though there's debate on whether it makes a difference. No hole is probably a perma lube bearing, they sent a screw with mine to remove/plug the zerk

When I install it, which side is engine side? , I found one side has part No. bbY-5569, the other does not have anything.

Today I got the gimbal bearing tools describled as following link,

I succeed in pulling the gimbal bearing with some trick. I pushed a stick at the engine size to make the craws expander

For install gimbal gearing, first thing, I have to make a hole on the alignment toos, Really I do not know how to drill hole. also I do not have this tools. Why the manufacture makes this hole at the factory.

But I watch following video at 10:40, he installs the gimbal bearing so easily

Can I install it in my own way showed in

Done. I made a hole in a stick and let the stick do the alignment tools job. Also the stick helped me to pull the gimbal bearing out. It is easier to make a hole in wood than metal.

Is the gimbal bearing right place? I found there is still a lot of space after the gimbal bearling.

No. It looks like the gimble bearing isn’t seated in all the way. Using a stick to pound it in on The inner race will ruin it. You need the proper installation tool for the bearing and alignment bar.

I hammered it again. Is it better?

What part of the bearing did you hammer on? (inside part or right on the outside edge?)

You can tell when the gimbal bearing is all the way in, the sound (as you hit it) changes. Once it's fully 'home' the sound is more 'dead'...

Unfortunately you did buy the incorrect kit. This kit is for Alpha One Gen II (1991-on), your drive is Alpha One (1986-1990)... You do not have the right kit. Most parts will fit (gimbal bearing, shift cable, shift cable bellows, exhaust bellows), but the universal joint bellows will not fit...

Yes that cable will fit. Again, did you hammer on the outside race of the bearing or the inside race?

I think the outside race because I have applied the cap. and the drive should be inside the cap. Did I do right? I know I should hit the outer race or it will be damaged.

After the coupler of my boat was wiped off, also I found the my lower unit was stuck there too. I was very confused and sad that how the coupler and lower unit were damaged at the same time. So I bought another outdrive which is old style and really I do not want to.

During buying the old style outdrive, I did a testing, changing the shift switch and turn shaft manually, the propeller also turn in correct direction. So I checked the water impeller and it was broken. So I took the impeller from my broken one and put into old style. To my surprise, it is stuck too after I mount the lower unit into upper. I also did the testing again without impeller, it works even my old outdrive.

I think my old outdrive works, I can do the testing without impeller, But it cannot turn while I mount the water impeller.

in the attached pic is old style outdrive, the water impeller was broken, But after I mount a working impeller, the whole outdrive is stuck. Will it be damaged after I mount into my engine?

I am sure , the lower unit gear works. That is good news. I have to spend 1000 or 200 to buy a working serviced one.

LOL. Both of my old style and new style outdrive work after I add some lubricant in water pump house while mounting. The water impeller scratch the house while turning. That is why it is so heavy to turn by hand without lubricant.

Thank you all
