Yes you can do it but you need to check also the stringers and transom while the engines out if your engine mount is rotted probably due to the age of the boat there is rot else whereI bought a used 2T engine hoist and I can check the base carefully. It seems that I have to rebuilt the base. Fibreglass job. Can I DYI?

Concrete? NoCan I apply concrete+oak wood?
Concrete? No
So sad, it is red oak. At that time somebody just told me oak, But I do not know what kind of oak wood is bette. But I did apply the fibraglass and resin. Hope it can workDepends on which type of oak. White oak is good for marine use but red oak is probably one of the worst woods you could use, it soaks water like a sponge. No matter what wood you use it needs to be done correctly or you will be doing this again real soon. Take your time and do it once!
You should stop. It won't work. Get the right wood...So sad, it is red oak. At that time somebody just told me oak, But I do not know what kind of oak wood is bette. But I did apply the fibraglass. Hope it can work
You have the new style seal, all good.
That ring is for the Gen II drives (1991 and later). You have an Alpha One (up to 1991), no retaining ring, it uses a large 'hose clamp'...Thank Achris. I have another question. I found other u-joint bellows house has the retaining sleeve. But I did not find it. What happened?
If you are replacing the gimbal bearing seal, then yes, you use the seal installer tool...Hi Achris, thank you for your replying.
My friend has following tools,Alignment bar, gimbal bearing remover, gimbal bearing seal and bearing installer, bellows expander, u joint bellows ring installer, hinge pin key, special shift cable socket.
Should I use gimbal bearing seal? Current I have following tools including special shift cable socket, bellows expander and Gimbal Bearing Install Puller Alignment Tool Hinge Pin For Boat Alpha Bravo OMC.
Thank you
Although many on here don't need the manual, many do. Most of us have learned either from the manual, or the expense of not having one. Yes, get the manual, and still ask questions. Nothing gets you where you need to be without said questions. We all make mistakes, and correct them at a cost. If I had a penny.....If you are replacing the gimbal bearing seal, then yes, you use the seal installer tool...
I don't see 'Merc service manual #6' on that list. Have you got yourself a genuine manual yet?
Chris...
You can do what you want...you'll be replacing the coupler in a year or 2 anyways after that rots.I have rebuilt the engine base. I have applied the wrong wood. But I just keep it. Later I can do it again after it is rotten.
Also Can I apply the trailer bearing grease to replace the spline grease?
