Agree ^^^^^ but nutters run this stuff. Any silt bypass Tunnel is a complete boondoggle. That's why they'll probably get it done:
That big metal thingy looks like a pump impeller to me.
Hike Historic Railroad Trail
what's it for?
Hey FD, isn't that in the water flow from the outlet to spin the turbine generators? :yield:
Yeah, knew that, but was having fun with thingy stuff.
:first: And we have a winner! It's a turbine, part of a hoover dam generator that gets pushed by water. The turbines are massive, about 15' across and 4' high.
They had a dozen of them laying out in the desert along the old railroad hiking trail that 12V mentioned a couple posts back. The turbines were of different ages as some of them looked really old and rusted up, others had been repaired, then a couple that were brand spanking new like the one I posted.
If you haven't walked across the bypass bridge, do it, it's pretty darn cool. (I've probably driven across the bridge 100 times, and only visited the walkway after hiking 4 miles :wacko Here are a couple of pics...

I can answer this. You get off at the Hoover Dam exit after the casino and drive over to the lot by the bridge. The walk is not that far, maybe 500 ft. It's farther across the bridge than it is to get to it.Dan, do you have to walk 4 miles to get to the by-pass walk way?

Howdy jj, I'm not sure how much the Las Vegas Wash contributes to or how much Lake Las Vegas takes away from Lake Mead. I searched and couldn't find much info. I wouldn't think that there is a negative effect on the big lake but I could be wrong.
