Way cool pic 12V!! Here's a detailed map of the area that I oriented in a similar direction as the pic. Don't know if it helps or hurts...

If anybody wants these maps I found, they are huge files (there are 4 I think). This one alone at full res is 14 MB. You can PM your email addy and I'll send them. A few of you have them already. They are really cool if you read all of the notes.

Thanks guys. I think you had sent those maps to me a few years ago QC. I remember very large files, but it was on a different computer. I'll have to look in our cloud files.

I'll be stopping in Vegas next weekend for the Mint 400 on our way to Brian Head UT skiing, but won't make it to the lake :blue:

12v says that it is the dry lake bed in Eldorado Valley & I do believe he is correct. (it may have rained in the days prior) If you go to google earth over Lake Mead & rotate to just CCW of ESE, you can see the simularities to the photo. I can't get google earth to work on this 'puter but it worked well on the office machine today.....otherwise I would do a screen shot. :)

Man that's a cool photo right? as you follow the road up you see it split, and just before that, theres a nice clean cut through the mountains to the right, maybe going to vegas. That's the mighty Colorado that I once knew! I think I even saw powell in that photo. that's john Wesley powell that is.

How do you think this is going to affect Mead this year?

Colorado River dam opening for flood experiment aimed at reviving dry Mexican delta

Another article said it's 34 billion gallons of water, 104,000 acre feet, or about 1/3 of what Nevada is alotted form the Colorado River each year.

The BOR says April-July 2014 Colorado River flows are supposed to be 116% of average, so I'm not sure the Mexico Delta flooding is going to lower Mead much over what it is now, but we won't make as much head-way filling the system back up.

Drop in the bucket, or more?

Ouch!!! Time to turn on HARP over lake mead.

Another strange thing is that over the last two days at work I have talked to two people that worked for area 51 and openly talked about there jobs there. I am closely related to this place, and this is unheard of for me. And of course I wanted to ask so many question but its divided up out there by badge clearances, so even if you work there, you are kinda lost about whats really going on.

I don't understand why they would choose to do this in a year where "exceptional drought", which is the worst possible category of drought, now covers 9% of CA, and "extreme drought" coverage, the second worst category, is at 67% of the state. I'm sure our allotment is at 100%, but I'm also sure there's some kind of clause for this kind of emergency between the states that take water that would allow states in the worst categories to take more. Instead they want to do some kind of "experiment" to see what would happen if they let the water flow into the ocean? Riiiightt..

They're talking about the local Mexican farming communities benefiting, but water hasn't flowed regularly since 1960. I'm sure any farming that was done over half a century ago isn't still going on. Man, someone better open their eyes to what's happening in the real world.

Although that sounds like a lot of water, it is only 1.5% of the total amount that is supposed to flow into Lake Mead this year. It does seem kinda dumb to do this in this particular year though.

Also, its unclear whether they are actually using more water overall. They just want to do a flood experiment. Maybe they make up for the huge release by slowing it down to compensate for it later.

True, that 1.5% is an interesting statistic, but this flood experiment to me sounds like a group trying to get their foot in the door, so to speak. Why even do this so called experiment if it isn't sustainable anyway? Maybe if we went to desalinization plants we could send the salt bi-product back east to cover their frozen streets. ;)

As far as I know, we also still owe Mexico a lot of water that we have held in storage in Lake Mead until damage they had to their water storage from that earthquake a couple years back could be repaired.

I read (yeah off the internet ) that all the water being used for this flood isn't coming from the Mexico's water banked in Mead. Mexico was given "credits" for water conservation or something of the sort... So this is just water being flushed into the gulf, with no one is having it removed from their allotment.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

The one aspect of this experimental flooding that they fail to realize is,,, the Colorado isn't loaded with sediment anymore. After the dams were built, the sediment drops out and the only thing coming out of the dams is clear water. What once looked like chocolate milk is now gin clear...

Flooding with sediment loaded water will build a delta, flooding with clear water will wash the delta away or just redistribute what's south of the border. It's not like they are going to build a bunch of new delta, like the Colorado used to do 80 years ago.

My guess... The delta will be scoured away after the flooding, so they will deem that they need to do more flooding

I'm with Dan. They made the decision to alter the flow years and years ago. No way to undo it unless we build six (more) silt tunnels (under discussion). One for each lake, Powell, Mead, Mohave, Havasu, Moovalya (Parker), Martinez, and now this little one on the border that I didn't even know about. Plus you'd have to go around each and every diversion dam as well. Done, over, faahhgetaboudit...

Other than the cars it looks the same lol, oh my! is that grass I see trying to grow. I think the small trailer is still at las vegas bay campground with the light on all night next to fee area as if someone is there.
Worst thing is the bath tub ring is there again, lake mead is a fighter@ iboats.

mystery solved!! This is the first campground host on mead right?

Whats that sun tea on the grass edge,in a sparkletts jug?

Shhhh.....

I'd say that's crazy talk, but if one were to suggest it to the nutty enviro's,,, they would say it's a great suggestion, and start making plan's for the silt tunnels that were mistakenly left out of the dam builds...
