You're right, it was blowing pretty bad Thursday. That area would have been nasty if the winds were coming from the north....

The pic was copied by someone from a news feed and posted to FB. I can't remember exactly what it said about the boat except that the accident was caused due to low lake levels. I think it was weather based on wind reports posted here. He may have run aground because he couldn't interpret the depth with the wind and waves.

That's BS from someone who doesn't understand boating. If I run aground at low tide in the Pacific what's the reason then?

Edit: For clarity, my comments are about the report, not the reporter ;)

"The search was scaled back Sunday to two boats from the National Park Service and Nevada Department of Wildlife and continued today. The search was focused on the area between Gull Islands and Stewart’s Point."

That's a pretty big area, and if they are searching up to Stewart's, sounds like they think the boat foundered and washed ashore miles away.

Its hard to interpret the lake levels even when its like glass right now.Lake mead is still one man down with life jacket on, and 2 missing.

These good old boys were there for a vacation and it turned ugly faster than a carp eating at the marina,I started wearing my life jacket everytime the boat is under power and most people laugh at me but I know its one step closer to opening the door at my house and hugging my little girls when I get home, with incredible lake memories in my mind.

How does a boat get upside down like that anyway? if it sank wouldn't the bow just be sticking above the water instead, unless it was like that when it hit the beach and turned over because of the waves and wind and so on. and with the swirl marks around it it appears that was a helicopter that took the picture.

I feel really bad for these fisherman no whiners!

There will be more situations like this coming this year, lets all get out there and do what ever it takes to stop this kinda thing! No matter what there doing when we see them lets get in there and help out for the good,if there drunk tow or drive them back in,and so on and just offer them a way out besides death. We don't know what happens to them in there life and why they do what there doing but we can help them when it matters most.

Las Vegas Review Journal says Lake Mead will drop another 20' by the end of the year and 30' by April 2015.

No worries! Lake Las Vegas is full of our water,we will launch there in worst case! I fished las vegas bay for years and when I noticed something upstream being built all of a sudden the wash water was gone and lake dried up.Call it what u will but I was there during those times of first drought and it was lake las vegas.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

A cool pic for Throwback Thursday...wayyy back. I hope you find this pic as cool as I do.

Pre-Dam/Lake Mead: Hemenway Wall is in the center of the picture, the mountain to the right became Boulder Islands, and you can see the old dirt road coming down Hemenway Wash. The bend in the Colorado River, right of center image, is where Ragtown gets built, on the sandy area. The canyon is Black Canyon, the dam gets built about where the river is hidden as it makes a left turn (a little upstream). Kingman Wash is the sandy area left hand quarter on the near side of the river. This is also where the ferry to cross the river was, operated by Jim Cashman. Fortification Hill is to the right of Kingman Wash. In the distance center image is the dry lake in Eldorado Valley.

Pre Lake Mead.jpg

This was at the bottom of the photo: In this photo provided by Fairchild Aerial Surveys, an aerial view of the region surrounding the site where Hoover Dam would be constructed, March 4, 1931. The announcement was made that the lowest bid for construction of the dam, power plant and appurtenances, was received from Six Companies, Inc., of San Francisco, Calif., The amount was $48,890,995.50.
