Re: Brand new boat listing to port!!

Suds<br /> I have read all of these postings and let me say I really feel for ya. My God what a nightmare. If it makes you feel any better at all , I have a rather old Chap. an 84 an it's been really good to me. I love it. But after your story I would never buy a new one. Good luck Suds, I really hope for the best for you.<br /> Mon Do

Small update. We did talk to Chap and are waiting to hear back from them as to what they are going to do. We're going on a month. Long enough I think.

suds you found your problem the motor is off set.simply go back to the dealer and ask for your money back or for a new boat.this is not your problem it is the dealers.there is no way to fix the motor once the transom has been made offset.be calm and tell the dealer you just can not live with it.good luck

Hey suds! Sorry I thought the problem was minor when I first checked out the post. Glad to hear you might be getting somewhere.<br /><br />Just watch out for the easy fix... A 150lb block of lead in the opposite corner. Good Luck with it!

Most exciting.<br /><br />Even though we may never know how Chaparral's come to a conclusion, it begins to look as if they've realised what is what and who is who in this mess.<br /><br />Hopefully they go for a total refund. If they're smart, they definately do. By offering you top class service they might be able to come out on he sunny side of it, you talkng nice about them and the rest of us still regarding them a responsible company.

Time to name the dealer, the sales manager, and who you are dealing with at Chapyourass. Then send them a copy of this thread.<br /><br />If engine and outdrive are both offcenter, I would accept nothing but a new boat.

J.B. and Moderate 1, What are your thought's on this one. Are all of these posts, (110), with all of these boaters, standing behind sud's, (as we all wait), the right thing to do. Or would yens approach this in a different manner? "Yens being in the boating business along time." Seibel

Re: Brand new boat listing to port!!

I am just one guy from Pittsburgh and I will never even think about getting a Chap. Every time i see one I will think about the owner and wonder if he got as screwed as suds did. And if anyone at work asks about buying a boat I will remember all the trouble suds has had. Where I work we fix the customers problems,no matter how long it has been since they bought from us. We always call them back ASAP! We figure if he likes our product he will get us one more sale, then one more sale from that person. I was going to buy a new boat next year and Chap. was on the short list, like I said was. In these times you got to be good and you got to be honest or you ain't got to be...

Hi All, Guess what, we haven't heard from them. They did call us last week, but nothing since. Just sent them another email. We do have pictures, but don't want to post them here or say anything that may jepordize any future actions. <br /><br />We're trying to decide which way to go. Have any of you used BoatUS's Mediation service and if so, how did it work out?

I've never used the service, but have been a member of BOAT/US since 1979. Have read of the cases they pursued over the years and they are thorough and persistent when they decide to take a case on. One of their current interests is better service in the boat industry, so it would seem like you've got a good shot at getting them to take it on. It can't hurt to try. Good luck, we all feel for you and your problem.

I would get this complaint down on record with the FTC before too much time has elapsed. This Company is clearly putting your complaint off.

Like I said they will never get back to you, been there done that. Time to get some things done, contact boat US or a lawyer, these guys obviously dont care about you, I hate to say it but its problably true with every other boat maker as well.<br /><br />-John

Re: Brand new boat listing to port!!

Finally got around to looking at this post, and a few thoughts came to mind ....<br /><br />TWO additional batteries would offset the weight ... <br /><br />one starting battery, and two big honkin RV batteries<br /><br />list covered, I assume that two inch offset wont affect the handling of the boat<br /><br />so much for THAT ...<br /><br />but but but ...<br /><br />there is the issue with the boat leaking, water coming in from somewhere<br /><br />the rails and swim ladder RUSTING, stainlesss steel RUSTING? now those are some highly VISIBLE components that chap apparently elected to skimp on ... frightening to think what they might have skimped on buried in the bowels of the boat ... gas tanks, cables wires stringers etc etc etc<br /><br />and then the tacit admission that " there are a lot of problems with these boats"<br /><br />whoa!!!!<br /><br />they can fix the list with two batteries, which would be a valuable addition to your boat if you like to stay out overnight<br /><br />but with all the QC issues, and the evasive nature of BOTH the dealer and the manufacturer, I would go for total refund of monies and head for Sea Ray or some other reputable maker<br /><br />Hell of a new boat buying experience, sorry bout that suds :(

Re: Brand new boat listing to port!!

Greetings all<br /><br />Interestings thread. <br />To Suds: You are defeating yourself by not exposing the dealer. You should check with your lawyer about what to say or not to say. But I would add that if what you say is 100% true then you could not be held liable.<br /><br />To all on this forum: Is there a web site that registers and exposes such bad boating experiences? There is one (unrelated to boats) about plant sales companies. I am not spaming for them but their web site is http://plantsbymail.net/ <br />This is an example of how a web site can work to expose wrong or GOOD doing by companies. Dark or shady companies can not stand the exposure of light.<br />Mr. Fitz.
