Still_learning, Yea, I sent it... :rolleyes: To a Dealer in KS., here...told them they better get the bigboys involved cause' it's being viewed by about 36,000 potential boat buyers....... :(

I know of a friend who had a 190 ss chaparral, or a 198 not quite sure the number, but when he bought it NEW back in 1996, It had a little bit of a vibration to it, so he took it back, dealer said it was ok, same problem. I think after 4 or 5 times with the dealer, he hired 3 mechanics on the side and they took it out and found the problem. what they did was get 2 other boats, same year, make, and model, and put them side-by-side, and picked them apart. Come to find out the only thing different was THE MOTOR MOUNTS. The next morning he and the mechanics took it back to the dealer with proof of the problem. IT WAS FIXED IN ONE DAY. and this is what pissed him off the most.

I agree with most people on this issue. I have a 22' Grady White that has a list also. The manufacturer and rep have both decided that there was too much glass laid up on the one side. It's not a big deal, but kinda aggravating. Nevertheless, you should get Boat/US involved if you are a member.<br /><br />Keep the shiny side up..ride forever

Maybe I can put this to rest for everybody. <br /><br />I didn't want to say anything but some time has passed so I feel suds is probably in the clear. Back on September 5, I went to the Atlantic City In Water Boat Show (NJ). I wandered over to the dealer exhibiting Chaps and started checking them out. From the dock, I looked at the stern of every Chap checking for a list and the ever alert salesperson (I think one of the marina owners) asked if they could help. I asked a few questions then informed the salesperson about this thread and the problems suds was having with his Chap. The salesperson knew exactly what I was talking about! I pressed the issue further and the salesperson admitted that suds purchased the boat from their dealership. I was very surprised when the dealer (in conversation) mentioned suds's full name. I think they realized their mistake when I repeated suds full name back to them. The salesperson said that suds had retained a lawyer. I asked about the bad treatment and the bad fixes (putting 2 batteries on the high side) and I got the impression that Chap directed the dealer to do/give the half a#$ fixes/explanations. Seems like the dealer was a pawn in this but they were probably sugar coating the whole story. I told them that I would not buy a Chap because of what was happening to suds. They where floored! What a great feeling! Anyway, the dealer indicated that Chap would "make it right", implying suds would probably get a new boat. Maybe they said that so I would buy a boat from them because I told them I was buying a boat that day. I don't know but as the salesperson went over to the other people from their marina and pointed to me and my brother, we exited the Chap we were sitting in and walked away. What a great feeling to avenge a fellow boater in distress! <br /><br />IMHO, I suspect that we will not be hearing from suds because the dealer and Chap were aware of this tread and as a condition of getting a new boat, put a gag order on suds. Good for you suds! I hoped it worked out for you. Too bad you had to drop cash on a lawyer. Maybe someday the boating industry will be more like the auto industry. Oh too dream...<br /><br />Mark<br /><br />PS: suds, I wanted to tell you this back in September. That's why I asked you to email me in one of my posts. I wanted to see if it was ok to tell my story. Ratfish, thanks for the heads-up. I know I was beginning to doubt the credibility of Suds and thought it was a well orchestrated troll. Guess it is the real thing. Sorry to doubt you, Suds, and congrats on your new boat. Hope it is better than the one it replaces!

Hi All,<br /><br />Happy New Year. Just wanted to let you know we are still working on the problem with Chap thru our lawyer. Problem not solved just yet. Chap didn't give Suds cement shoes and turn him into an anchor (and we all know anchors love water) - at least not yet! Thanks for the heads up, Suds!

Suds,<br /><br />Sorry to see that the saga is continuing. I had hoped it came to an acceptable conclusion for you. <br /><br />I find it hard to believe that Chap is dragging this out! It is definitely hurting their reputation on this board and is just bad business. This helps justify Chaps fall from the number one spot on J.D. Powers rating for small runabouts.<br /><br /> J.D.
