We made a run to Chesapeake City. It went very well and we really enjoyed the ride. Saw some really nice big boats on the water too. What did the rest of you do?

Blue Crabber - we launched at Pennsville and went to Chesapeake City also; we were there about 2-3pm. I think we saw your boat!

Never heard you. I talked to Rob when i was less than a mile away and it received and transmitted fine. I;m still questioning whether I receive correctly.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Great weekend on the water. Saturday night at 7:00 pm we lauched at Boston street inner harbor. Took a ride to the Scott Key Bridge and and back to pier 7. We tied up to the side just as Kenny Loggins started to play. I fired up the cobb grill and threw on a pound of shrimp then threw on some Salmon filet's with small red potatos with the back ground music of top gun. I had no idea how many theem songs Keeny has done. For dessert for the evening I made homemade tollhouse cookies done in the cobb grill. You can cook almost anything in one of those.

Sunday beautiful weather again and I took my two daughters out and we lunched at Maritime point park and took a run over to still pond. Flat water run and beautiful. We left the park around 5 30. Here are a couple photos.

Glad to hear some people made it out today!! It was a beautiful calm day on the water!!

We made a run to Chesapeake City. It went very well and we really enjoyed the ride. Saw some really nice big boats on the water too. What did the rest of you do?

Stan - How did the V-20 do on her maiden voyage?
Alright...now there's a story if you all have time.....Let me just start out by saying I am VERY happy with this boat....it looks like it's exactly what I've been searching for these past 15 or so years (HappierWet can correct me). A little bit lake and a little bit bay. Something with a cuddy cabing big enough to actuall use...without the cabin taking up all the cockpit room. Something to fish and crab from and also ski and tube. Something that tows easy and has an outboard. Something big enough to handle rough water, yet small enough to not be a hassle.....I present the Wellcraft V-20 Steplift Cuddy. My tune may change by the end of summer...but for now it's still honeymoon time......now back to the story.

Set the alarm for 5:30 (yes, a.m.) was hitched and ready to go the night before. Got up to the marine store by the lake at 7:10 am. Spent $160 buck on Nav lights, some misc. hardware items, a couple of engine well tubes, etc. Went to the lake ramp parking lot and got to work. Called Happier Wet around 8 am and texted Lime 4x4. Lime showed about a half hour later....Happier Wet took a couple of hours......but Lime brought some tools and Happier Wet brought some drill bits and a hammer or two.

Finished the B.S. work around 12:30 or so and plunked her in....she fired and ran with little drama...seemed like she wanted to go go go. Was evident after a very short ride that she was overheating at anything over idle speed...with steam...so I held a conference with my two experts and managed to determine that the impeller might need to be replaced. So back onto the trailer with her and Lime4x4 was kind enough to give me a ride back down to the marina to get a complete water pump kit. Then we ran up to his folk's house to get some more tools and a infrared thermometer. Back to the parking lot and off with the lower unit....two pro-techs...took us less than 5 minutes to have it apart....sweet. Old impeller was SHOT in about every way that an impeller can be shot. Back together with new parts (another $60) and back in the water. o.k. now she's running cool, but the temp guage is acting like a tachometer (which also doesn't work) at idle..dead cold...as speed comes up. so does heat..maxes out about 3/4 of the way up the gauge...water "pee" stream feels same temp either way...hit both heads with the heat gun...then took their temps....same temp both times (idle and after high speed run) within a few degrees and no steam this time. Stopped, rafted with Happier Wet ate some fried chicken and a couple of beers smoked a stogy all provided by happierWet, took her for a run down the lake and back, called it a day about 4:30 pm. Went home....Lime and Happier can fill in any details I may have missed...oh yeah, I broke a few of Happier's drill bits while I was at it......

Sorry we missed you to Scott. I thought about giving you a call to see if you were out (still need to install the VHF on the new boat) but when the water was so flat, I decided to make the run to Chesapeake City. Hopefully next time out we can hook up.

Blue Crabber - we launched at Pennsville and went to Chesapeake City also; we were there about 2-3pm. I think we saw your boat!

I think we probably would have been there around 2:30 or so. Didn't stay long, just cruised into the Yacht Basin and turned around and came back out.

Where you one of the boats over at the city dock? (Along the starboard side as you enter?)

Next time give us a shout! Always like meeting new people. :)

Funny thing, when we came through the canal I saw a boat from Hilton Head Island SC that I know I have seen docked up there before while on vacation. That was kind of neat for us.

Sweet Stan!! Sounds like a good first day all things considered!

Sounds like she is everything that you hoped for plus some. Hope it stays that way for you.

What Lake did you go to?

Glad so many were able to enjoy the beautiful day. I am looking forward to a full summer of them!

We went to Beltzville Lake (resevoir). It has a 150 hp Mercury Black Max on it and it seems to run somewhere between 25 and 80.....ask Happier..he was keeping pace with us. Seriously I'm gonna guess at about 52-55 mph. Course it was just two adults, 3/4 of a 60 gal tank of gas and no seats...

Well, now that the bimini pivots are installed properly, next time out I'll bring the top and you can bask in the shade.....

Arks had suggested this coming weekend for a raftup. I won't be around though, so if it is going to happen, someone else will have to grab it and run to get it ready for this weekend.

If it doesn't, then when I get back from vacation, I will suggest and help plan a different date.

Whatever happens is fine with me.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Went out Sunday, we got out too early and the water was so rough, so we retreated up the Bohemia (like always) and anchored out for the day. I just assumed it was still rough out in the bay, so when it was time to head back to Stemmers Run we realized it was perfect out there but we're out of time, so we only got to buzz around a short time to waste gas. I was really bummed, we missed the smoother water. Anyway, found out we've done something wrong installing the transducer since the depth finder wouldn't work, so it's better we stayed put anyway. Bimini finally arrived on Monday (one day too late, we're fried). But I have a question... there's a beach on Elk River side of Turkey Point, from looking at the chart I believe it's at Jacobs Nose? Can anyone pull up there?

That is where I was hanging for a bit on sunday. It is a nice, pretty clean little spot.

I did pick up a bag full of trash from some ignorant hikers though. They left foot prints and their entire picnic on the sand!!

I have gone there a few times now, I guess anyone can pull up there. It is part of the state park.

Yeah, it's a nice boat. Cuddy kept the kids occupied. Ran well, handled the wakes very nicely. We're gonna need a gps to determine speed, I'm not even sure how fast the Checkmate is although it'll chinewalk. I kinda like it with no seats.
SuperNova forgot to mention he also broke some stainless screws. (lol)
Seriously though, I think it'll do what he wants. It's in really nice shape for the age and having been a saltwater boat.:)

I have a wellcraft v-20 as well. One of the best riding boats for it's size!!!! Not a fast hull though. Mine has a 175 Merc with a 19 pitch mirage plus and at WOT it gps's 38-42 mph depending on load and water conditions.
