Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Hey, any of you locals hear anything about a covered marina over on the Bohemia that the roofs collapsed on the boats from all the snow? My uncle was over there taking pictures and I should be getting them soon.....I am still waiting for the report on Rogue Harbor ramp by the way......

Yep, seen a bunch of pics from Georgetown. :(
Hopefully I can take a ride down to Rogue in the next few days.

a 21 ft boat would be fine most days on the open bay that far down. i take my boat out on the bay from sandy point a lot.

any creek off the bay is a lot calmer. the bay may be an average of 2-4 ft seas.

O.k., so it was Georgetown and not one of the marinas up on the Bohemia?

That is correct, at least it is the only one I heard about. Arks started a page in Dockside Chat about it over the winter.

Talk about a bad day for the marinia and all of those boat owners!

Also, I had to run down to Jackson Marine today, so I took a ride down to Rogue, just for you!

No mention of when completion will be, you can call that number though,

I'd hate to be off of TP today, the water looked BIG.
Too bad my phone cam sucks, or you could see the breakers in this pic,

Wow thats cool to see . I use to work there when I was growing up. I once watched a junior ranger not set the brake on the fire jeep and lauch the chase boat over the sea wall there.

I know when a ship goes down the canal they push 2 feet of water out of the elk river.

Nice pics brought back memories

BTW Stan, what are the proposed renovations? That place looks pretty nice to me.

Rogues Harbor is on the Elk River side about 1.75 miles North or Turkey Point Lighthouse.

Wow, I hadn't heard about the marina in Bohemia Bay. That really stinks. Hope that they all have really good insurance.

Honestly, I thought the same thing. I don't have any idea what they are supposed to be doing, just was told it would be down starting in late March and lasting at least 10 weeks. I was at that ramp last summer and it looked fine to me....

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

why are all of these ramps getting redone, in this economy. When state employees are getting laid off, we are making un-nessecary imrpovents on boat ramps.
Just like how they repaved Rt. 22 and Rt. 40 last summer, when both roads did not need it. All part of the American reinvestent and recovery act. I wonder if these boat ramps are part of that act.

I hope they don't close all the ramps, the Park In HDG will be real busy now.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

according to one maryland paper.

The existing piers, pilings and bulkhead were damaged by several storms and those damages will be repaired. Additionally, the decking on the piers and bulkhead will be replaced.

I spoke to the new HdG marina manager last weekend and he said they JUST got the last permit for their ramp work, but will wait until October 2010 BECAUSE of all the other ramp projects in the area.
Our ramp will definitely be extra busy until some of these other ones are done.

Yep, I'll be using HDG until Lapidum is done, in May, according to them.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

so right now there are only 2 ramps open on the harford county side of the river, and one is the kayak ramp, with only 10 parking spots.
any perryville has one or 2, but would have to pay 10 bucks to cross the 40 bridge with my trailer!
