Bad news from the machine shop today it seems as though the exhaust seats in this mirror are in terrible condition. The motor was a running motor and showed no signs of any mechanical issues. I sent the heads in to be reworked mostly just oil seals and a good checking over. These things are utter junk I'm glad I didn't rely on them to go out on that would've been a bad day on the water at some point if not immediately.

The good is the port side floor is nearly done I'll still have to cut in the hatch for the fish box and lay the top layer and gel coat.

They were eroded above the valve seat. It looked like they had water sitting on the area around the seat. My 1st thought was how bad could it be then I saw them and was like Holy Chit!

Now finding a decent set of replacements may be the hard part. I have a set of a 350 but I am not sure what cc the combustion chambers are these 305 heads are 58cc from what I gather by the casting number.

350 heads are anywhere from 64cc heads up to 76cc heads. plus if you put 350 heads on a 305, you shroud the valves and it doesnt run right

I noticed the seats but figured the machine shop can replace them
Maybe a set of heads is cheaper then the machine work

Yeah it took a odd direction yesterday. The machine shop may be just trying to turn work away as how busy they are or trying to save me some time.

Yeah I was concerned more about the compression ratio then secondly if they would even work with the smaller cylinders.

Okay I have a question that I can't seam to find the answer for.

I want to add a set of self bailing deck drains on either side of the engine compartment at the back of the boat. I ordered a set of SS drains they are 22mm so roughly 7/8". Should I tie them together or send them separately?

Also the thru hull fitting they connect to what is the most reliable scupper to use? I see there's a kind with a rubber flapper and then there's one with a little plastic cone and a ball inside.

How do those attach do they just cover the thru hull and then get some good old sealant around where they matte up?

Never been around a boat that ever had them but they look like they'd work real well on this boat now with the higher deck that's all one level.

The new heads came in on FedEx today. Yay!

The FedEx guy carried both of them together across 4 lanes of traffic up 6 steps and across my front yard. Somebody ate their Wheaties.

These look so much better I only wish I would've ordered them earlier and not waited on the other for 2 weeks to find out they needed parts that were gonna take 3 weeks to get.

So there must be a place to look for it but what is the oil fill procedure and important things to know on the volvo sp and 280? The Seloc manual doesn't seem to have the info in it. If it does I'm not finding it. This is the only volvo I've ever owned. I don't want to have a screw up like that Damm OMC cobra and fry the upper gear set. I've drained both drives and neither seemed to have very much oil in them.

To pre-oil a GM motor (OMC, VP, Merc), remove distributor and use a drill and flat screw driver end or similar and spin oil pump thru dizzy hole

Several steps closer tonight. A good couple coats of gelcoat in the engine bay. Just incase anyone wondered each engine pad has to support 220lbs and the transom plate has to support 170lbs or approximately. I scaled the motor today before installing it for my own curiosity.

A little drive love today. I finally found the answers for the drive unit oil fill and type. Almost all the seals have been replaced. And I have a full length skeg again. Now if the weather would stop with the rain and if my polyester resin would show up I can get the rest of the boat built out.
