DJ, we have an Ace hdw also, and thought hey are small, I love em...and they will still match the big boys prices most of the time...they are the only ones left with a bulk hardware counter where you can find any nut or bolt ya want and buy 1 or 1oo...

yea , the ace hardware is a memory, true value and service star merged awhile back, and when the last true value in town closed he said that the distribtor was mergening the region, and lowes is breaking ground.

The big box stores like Wal Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. are not solely to blame for the demise of some small businesses. <br /><br />Let's remember that this country has seen a huge population shift from rural to urban in the last fifty years.<br /><br />We also have very punishing tax laws and regulations that many small businesses cannot always cope with.

I know this is off topic but since wajajaja just mentioned Lowes.I recently went to the new Lowes that just opened down the street and bought a new kitchen faucet and sprayer combo.Granted the tight *** that I am ,I bought the Phister for under $40.This things comin out whether I pursue a refund or chalk it up to another cheap 'hecho en mexico' mistake. It water hammers like a big dog when turning on because of the check valve design and it led to the plastic spray nozzle developing hairline cracks that leak when the water is turned on.Granted it's not brand new.Heck it's almost three weeks old now. ;) <br /><br />Maybe since they are allowed to peddle this junk it should /needs to be required to post some warning labels as to the most frequent side effects of such items.Sorta like what is done with medicinal items. Then it would make it easier for some naive purchaser such as myself to determine which one will actually work. :p

Remember that Kmart, Sears, and others were there long before Wally World came along and failed to change as times and conditions changed. The free enterprise system can be unkind indeed to those that are mentally or physically lazy or choose to rest on their laurels. I see more loyalty to their employer by Wal Mart employees than many unions have to theirs who do not hesitate to wreck, destroy and otherwise hurt their companies during "negotiations". Also, few small employers in my community offer better pay and benefits for the same type work than Wally World. Also, a lot of customers are out to cheat, lie, steal etc. from businesses and they have to work to counteract it or they will be out business themselves shortly.

Just a side note on benefits at wal-mart, the employees have to pay a big chunk of that themselves.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. If one thinks that benefits are "free" you're kidding yourself. Everyone is paying-trust me. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it is not there.<br /><br />Most people today do not even know how much income tax they pay. Why? Because they never see it.

I really love watching how an original post looks nothing like the final ones!!! JB, now I see what you mean about evolution, because we see it here on iboats everyday!!! This is so fun, I can hardly wait to get back to it every day!!!!!!!!!!<br /><br />Today I get to leave work after a ahalf day and still get paid for the other half...then I do not return till January 3rd...also, I have been waiting for one and one half years tog et my Government Secret Clearance finalized. Today I get to go to Pass & ID and get my permanent Base Pass Badge and Car Stickers...now I can actually walk thru the Confidential areas of our building and not have a babysitter, er, escort...being in IT it really halps to not have to have an escort everytime a trouble ticket comes in, or to go troubleshoot the PBX everytime it blinks out...

Re: A WalMart gripe...grrrrrrrrr

Guys, we all got our rank somewhere...but, to be very truthful, I don't give a rip about the rank...if there were none I would still post as much as I wanted to...this is just plain old fun. <br /><br />HEHEHE, but since rank comes with posting tons of unintelligent stuff (mostly), I might even make Admiral some day soon :D <br /><br />

OK, I will.<br /><br />I won't darken Targets door because of:<br /><br />1. They banned the Salvation Army for political correctness reasons. The SA has been ringing bells in front of stores as long as I can remember.<br /><br />2. I sent them a letter regarding their new policy. The response I got back was nothing less than condescending.

Re: A WalMart gripe...grrrrrrrrr

Funny...didn't know a store made a policy!!! There has to be a "person" behind it, and thus it would become the policy of THAT person or group of persons!!! Most of us agree, don't we?

I really dont think you can blame Target. I blame lawsuit happy lawyers who are all to happy to take on a case against Target.<br /><br />"Target wont let my church of satan group ask for donations in front of their store, but the let the Salvation army do it..Lets sue"<br /><br />I get the feeling that many more stores will follow Targets lead.<br /><br />Ken
