Man... just got back from a long weekend at the family cabin in northern pa... looks like this entire week is shot weatherwise... I gotta figure out stuff I can do inside to keep progress moving.:mad-new:

Send me your address and I will be happy to send you the remnants of my seats and bulkheads for you to remake and re-cover. Solely for helping you fight through boredom on rainy days, of course. You're welcome.:becky:

This rain is ridiculous... just won't stop.

decided tonight to get some things cleaned up downin the basement and saw my old trim sender and limit switch there... I forgot I wanted to do a video on rebuilding them... soooo.... that's what I did. Not forward progress on the resto but at least I got to do boat stuff :D

I did the trim sender so far. The housing and contacts were still good. Just the wire was exposed.
The outside of the wire needs to be 1\8" to fit through the holes and be able to get sealed by the o-ring.
make sure you use somewhat flexible stranded wire and solder into the connector.
I cut upend the white wedge style wire holder that goes into the housing through the transom. I will use a glue gun and get the new wires sealed. Cheap way to fix the trim senders instead of forking over $75. We already spend way too much on boat stuff and this is not a safety feature.

Got a question that I think I know the answer to already...

I bought 2 gallons of gelcoat last summer anticipating I would have been done with that by now, but obviously not there yet. I know the shelf life is approximately a year, but I'm wondering if the test is to just try it and see if it cures and if so its fine, if not throw it away, or is it going to be a situation where it might cure, but the durability is gonna be crap? I'd hate to gelcoat the whole deck and find out in a year its going to start chipping or something.

Anyone have any reservations or concerns with this for my mounts? 3 top layers of 1/2" and 2 layers on each side for verticals.... obviously gonna cover the crap out of it with 1708...

Also forgot to mention, I had a chance to get my motor running out of the boat to make sure everything was still mucho smootho... Everything went pretty well, but I think I did determine I needed that carb rebuild lol. Had a little bit of dieseling the first time I shut it down, and it seemed to stumble when I gave it some throttle so I'm making the ASSumption it was running lean and hot...

Decided to make a video on this cuz I know it can be a little intimidating running an engine on a stand or out of the boat and making sure everythings hooked up right...

I was able to get the mounts PB'ed in last night before the rain kicked in... Which then confined me to the bench where I disassembled the carb... Got everything apart except the power valve. I didn't have a wide enough screw driver so I'll pick one up tonight and start cleaning... Overall it looked very clean, but I'll get some carb cleaner and a tooth brush and go to town on it. Might shoot it with a fresh coat of Mercruiser black (rustoleum engine enamel).... lol

Probably true, but all of the spots where there isn't paint on my Mercarb is totally covered in corrosion... I don't cruise around at 4500rpms all day so I'm not too worried about heat and/or detonation. I'd rather protect the metal if I can help it... I figure if Merc did it, I probably should too.
