I feel like I've started to lose some motivation since I'm coming to the realization that boating is not gonna happen this year lol.

With you on that one. Football starts this weekend, bow season starts in a couple weeks, so unless I get lucky early there won't be many weekends left for me to work on mine until spring. Need to keep your priorities :)

Badger and Packer fan here.

Yep! Heading up to the Penn State opener Sat morning... See how we can handle "Appalacian State" lol.. These games are usually an indicator of our team for the year... been surprised in a bad way before.

Years ago when I was in sales, my funniest landing was flying into State College from Pittsburgh. They sent us in a de Havilland Otter. That thing is such a kite, we bounced off the runway about 4 times before finally settling down on that short runway. My best friend from HS went to Penn

Yea, its a great town, minus the airport lol. Sometimes I'm still very surprised I graduated. You gotta have a good head on your shoulders to make it thru all the short skirts and bars everywhere lol... Probably why most people don't go there until their last 2 years (otherwise there'd be a 20% grad rate)

That was Bob's problem - went there on full scholarship and bombed out after first year in 1967. He didn't date much in HS and had a field day (year) there. Too many temptations for him.

My daughter is doing a masters program at Penn State but it is mostly on-line so she will never know the joy of the late nights at the G man or Ratskeller.

Now I don't know where I'm gonna go get my half rack of rolling rock ponies in town!

Just FYI there's four seasons to football here too...they are:

1. Football Season (Fall and Winter)
2. That's followed by recruiting season (up to signing day)
3. Then comes Spring football
4. And when that's over...it's Arrest Season (this lasts from late Spring to early August)

Got the last of the 3 Mercarb videos done. Technically the carbs been on the boat for a little while now lol, but finally got around to making the video. Hoping all the service manual settings are pretty good and I won't have to do much tweaking on the boat. I'm assuming the only things I'll need to do are set the idle mixture screw and idle speed, but hoping the recommended choke and accelerator pump settings are spot on :)

Got some more work done today. Got the engine lifted up and in so I could mark where to drill the front mount holes. I initially noticed the left right alignment was a good bit off but then realized I forgot to switch the hoist to the thermostat lift point. Once I did that, I used the alignment tool in the coupler the hold it straight and then finished tightening the rear mounts. Then I marked the front mounts...

reversed all that and pulled the motor back out, then drilled the holes oversized and filled with pb and drilled final holes.

now that that is done, I need to get the battery tray and trim pump sacrificial pieces pbed and glassed in.

then I want to coat the rear area with gelcoat so I can finally install the motor.

Got the battery tray, trim pump, and bilge pump mounts glassed in tonight. Cracked open the 5th 5 gallon bucket tonight $$$$$$.

probably gonna be a lot left but oh well, I'll find a use for it.

if I think of it, I'll snap a pic before I leave for work tomorrow.

Picture as promised..

Found a couple air bubbles with the light of day that will need some attention, but basically done otherwise. Dual batteries on port mount, trim pump on starboard mount and bilge pump...... well... thats obvious.

Looking good. I bet having a lift to move the engine in/out really simplified things when lining up the motor mounts. Wish I could restore my boat like this!

my "lift" comprises of 100 bucks worth of home center lumber and a harbor freight chain hoist lol... I learned my lesson after removing the motor the first time with an undersized engine hoist gone wrong.

After building the gantry, I'd never do it any other way... Its a 5 minute job getting the motor up in the air, then just back the boat under and lower it in.

Yep, best way to go. After I built the gantry I sold my engine hoist for what I paid for it - don't miss it at all now.

Got a couple hours in tonight... doesn't look like I did much of anything.

I started cleaning up the engine area with acetone and some sanding to prep for gelcoat. I also found some screw holes that still needed filled with pb so I did that. I also removed the rear cleats, handle and tow hook. I'm going to beef up the wood backing so they don't crack the fiberglass.

for some reason the were a lot of iboats posts this summer with people's tow hooks ripped out. Not gonna happen to me! Lol

random question for the experts....

When I was cleaning the engine compartment last night, I was using some acetone to wipe off the old gelcoat and it worked really well for removing old dirt, however, when I wiped the area that I did on the transom, it almost looks like it removed the pigment or something. The areas i really scrubbed almost look like they are slightly translucent now. Any idea whats going on here?

I used US Composites standard "pure white gelcoat". it looked great initially, it just got a little dirty over the last few months.
