Whatever your local dump charges.....

I spent $78 for a much bigger boat filled w the pieces of another 18ftr cut up and thrown into it. But I'm in WV, so I wouldnt expect it to be the same for wher ever you are

Well some use the term " tis the season " for Christmas but I use it for able to get boat work done 😊

I have a question in regards to smoothing the floor. Am I able to use fairing compound on the floor prior to gelcoat application?

dont know, I always added a layer or two of glass, then hit that with 40 grit on the DA, followed by some good fairing compound. then I textured the floor with thickened gel

What a beautiful day 😃.
I'm starting some of the installation of the floatation foam so I can finish the stern once the holes are sealed but I wanted to show how much the foam does expand. I put approximately 5 ml of each part in the cup and it's amazing how much it reacts (expands).

I just happened to run across some of your restoration videos and wanted to ask how the paint is holding up and do you have any regrets using paint over gelcoat.
The paint definitely seems easier to manipulate.

Just got done reading your thread. Great job you're doing. I'm familiar with that boat, my buddy owned one but he let it sit & rot. Lol. Also, I see you live in Hudson Falls. I'm familiar with that town, I lived in Glens Falls 30 years ago & GF & HF are great little towns. Lake George is absolutely gorgeous. One of the prettiest lakes I've ever seen. Hope you get to splash her soon!

I found a boat exactly like mine for free with many great parts but rotted like mine was, my question is can anyone give me any examples of what it might cost to get rid of just the hull. 16' Bayliner capri.
I took my 19 ft Starcraft to our county recycling center & it cost me like $20 for them to take it. Had to remove the gas tank & I had it stripped down, removing the drive, the engine, seats etc. so it didn't weigh much.

I finally reached out to the local transfer station and it would cost somewhere around 500 which tells me they don't want them and that was totally gutted.
I haven't given up on my project but the blasted upstate NY weather won't cooperate!

Well May has been so Topsy turvy with high temperatures in the low 40's so nothing done 😞. Next week will be good temperature wise so with having some days off during that time it looks good to get started again even though it'll be in and out of the garage.

Good morning everyone,
I'm getting ready to "knotch" the transom for the drive steering arm and wondered if there were any tricks. I have a 1-3/4" hole saw and was going to mount it and whittle away accordingly and of course I didn't take measurements of that 😔.
Thanks,
Jim

Sorry, I didn't get notified for this...

I'm really happy with how the paint went... My only complaint at this point (which is my own fault), this winter my cover got a rip in it, so water sat in one of the corners of the deck for a long time... Eventually I think it soaked through the paint itself and got under it... When I took the cover off this spring to clean up, I found several blisters where this happened... I "popped" them and gnarly looking water squirted out... The paint itself didn't come off, but its basically lost its adhesion to the underside... Granted, they are all really small, like less than 1/8" at the biggest...

If they start flaking off, or just drive me nuts, it would be an easy fix...
Thats the biggest benefit I see of paint, you can always order more in the exact same shade and fix bad spots as needed... Gelcoat you will need to custom tint to match everytime unless you just use the plain bright white.

I would say, if I decided to do it again, I might go the 2 part poly instead... More money upfront, but you don't need to sand between coats, and overall more durable/harder...

If you have a PPG dealer close by, I would recommend Sigmadur 550... its basically the same as most 2 part poly boat paints, but a good bit cheaper.

That's ok.
I really appreciate your response to my question because it certainly gives me options I wasn't aware of.
With the blisters you mentioned and how the moisture may have worked its way through the paint do you think this could be a shortcoming of the type of paint?
I want to do it right but I also have to watch $$$$.
Thanks 😊
