Re: 86 Sea Ray Restoration
Woodonglass - LOL, you are so funny! I didn't realize it was that bad
I did notice I kinda looked like the Snow Miser with all that deadly dust in my hair! But I do promise to get a Tyvek suit before next weekend when I get back to grinding. What's going to be funny is seeing me squeeze into a XXL!!!
Either home depot needs a big and tall section or I need to lay off the venti white mochas and all the bad food that I eat! But seriously, I do need to drop some weight. I don't like how I'm looking in the videos. Also, recently a friend and co-worker of mine didn't pass the physical.. (kinda scary). I'm going to lose 60 lbs or die trying! Every Sunday I will post a scale pic as a reminder to myself to stay focused.
Tpenfield - It is not fun, but I am dedicated to getting this boat back into the water! ?Fish on!?
Build plan? Good question, the short answer is? no rebuilding plan. The long answer is, I took lots of measurements, pictures, videos and kept every piece of wood that I thought could be used as a reference or a template or even used as a piece of a template. I plan to use 2 LB Density Urethane Foam along with poly resin over marine or exterior grade ply. My intention is to put as much back as it was originally with two exceptions. First, the two main stringers will be two ? inch ply PL?d together because the original setup is too hard to duplicate. Secondly, the two back to back seats will be replaced with two captain?s chairs as this boat will be mainly used for fishing. Other than that everything is going to be put back as close to stock as possible. My plan is to do deck level and below first (I may add an extra bulk head or two). Then after that build up the consoles, bow, main seats rear seats and engine cover. Because I am not using the back to back seats there will be a need to find a spot for the foam that was on the sides of those seats. After the grinding is done I will post my stringer and bulkhead layout before I PL it to the hull and before I start any glass work. There is one issue that really bothers me and that is the huge open hatch above the gas tank? this is just asking for trouble. I plan to take my time and make sure I do that part of the project with extra extra care. I am hoping you guys can stop me before I make any mistakes.
Honestly, this is all new to me. So far everything has been a huge learning experience done though my research and all the wonderfully kind people here at iboats.
Trooper82 - Is there really a person in that suit??? A real live person???
Georgesalmon - No there was no wires in that pipe. The odd thing is that there is no way for water to get into that pipe because the top of the wood block for the bow eye is sealed and the only reason the spot under the bow eye is cracked open is cause I grinded to much trying to smooth it out. The pipe appears to serve no purpose unless it somehow adds some rigidity to the keel. I?m actually glad you mentioned that about scuffing, I have been just grinding of lips and glue, now I will also be prepping the appropriate areas for glass simultaneously, this will save me from coming back to the same area twice? I hope.
