Are the stringers solid?

Papaw will be proud! A tribute boat to him is awesome!

I would imagine some audio going into this boat? Do you install home A/V?

The stringers are rock solid. the boat was garage kept for almost 28 years. The only reason the transom rotted was due to a bad seal.

Yes, I own a home theater company here in Dallas. We service the richer folk in our area.

Fantastic job on the boat dollys and getting her off the trailer. I will definitely be directing other members to this thread who ask "how do I get the boat off the trailer?"

Well I called the people that make the "west system" and they have lined out on what I need. Off I go to west marine. I plan on getting the trailer done this weekend though.

Harbor Freight has 1000lb Furniture Dollys for 11.99 and the smaller ones for 9.99. I picked up one to play with it, but think I am going to buy 3 more to sit the boat on.

I tried those but the rubber wheels started to crush.

Just an Idea:

The stringers in my boat are rotting up near the ski locker. they are rotting in the aft part of the ski locker. If you have the chance, maybe sealing up some of those areas would be good? I dunno. after looking at my motor mount glass job, it looks horrendous, and it is easily evident why it is all rotted, maybe this might help any rot from starting. Just a thought!

I am excited to see your progress, it makes me anxious to start my boat!! I really cant wait! Keep up the good work. I wont be starting for another few weeks, I have to finish up my street bike first.

Ok, I am beat so this will not be a big post. I rebuilt the trailer this weekend. This absolutely killed my back. I am sitting here writing this while the heating pad does it's job.

So here is what I did

Removed the old bunks
Replaced the old latch style tongue for a locking type.
Replaced the bunks with new pressure treated wood
Put on two coats of rustoleum gloss black
Put on new LED lights and new wiring.

I might have to take next weekend off.

I still need to get a new winch, tongue jack, and a spare holder. I have the Keel rollers, but the pins that hold them on are not in yet, so I will have to wait.

Re: 81 Glastron SX-190 Transom and Engine- PICS Galore Update 11-8

Ok, now I am going to really need your help guys. I am going to buy the epoxy products and I am way confused.

I was set on using the west system and I have a place that sells it locally (I really believe is supporting local businesses), but I have read some posts about how it is over priced. Is it really, or is it just that good? I mean if you go into a Bentley Dealership you are getting more than a Chevy right? I want this boat to be perfect and I am not opposed to spending the money, but if it really is just a name, I might look elsewhere.

Anyway on to my real question. I am going to start the transom work this weekend and I want to make sure I am going about this the right way.

1. Cut two sheets of ply and glue them together with thickened epoxy (mayo), and seal the entire thing with thinned out epoxy.
2. Glue the sealed transom in with thickened epoxy (mayo) and clamp through the leg hole until dry.
3. I then would tab in the floor to the transom (what mat should I use?)

Let me know if i am going in the right direction. I also need to repair about six inches of each stringer in the back. How should I attach them to the old?

Thanks for the help guys

I can't help ya about the product pricing much. But for the joint on the stringer, with it in there it'll be hard to cut it good, unless you have a very good backsaw maybe? I would do a scarf joint, or maybe a dado.

I just placed my order with US composites and they are very nice people. I heard of one place in the metroplex (on my side) that does large fiberglass supply and their prices are CLOSE to US composites.

Can you find out where this place is?

Re: 81 Glastron SX-190 Transom and Engine- PICS Galore Update 11-8

I found several, but these are all over in Fort Worth:

Harris Fiberglass, he can get your fiberglass by the yard.

Composites One is another one in North Richland Hills

General Purpose Polyester Resin is CHEAP, should be less than US Composites. The smallest amount of resin they sell is in 5 gallon drums and they do it all. I might pickup extras from them to avoild hazardous materials fees (epoxy doesn't have this fee from US composites)

Their fiberglass they only sell by the Roll. A roll of 1708 38" wide $2.38 per lb and a roll is 150lbs. So, unless you need a lot US composites would be easier to order fiberglass from.

Composites One said call first and give them 2 hours at least before pickup so they can prepare the order. Make sure you tell them you are an individual.
