Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

My friend, I am here to tell you that you need help. Real help. You need therapy. I mean serious stuff, heavy duty sorts.

I am here for you. Know that.

Here is what I am thinking. Myself and the other MI fellas around here will all go out fishing, you too. And we'll fish our brains out. You know, over exposure sort of stuff. Like when your dad caught you smoking and he made you smoke the whole pack sort of therapy. Old school. Lots of fishing.

LOL I think I just tried that over the weekend and it might've worked...I've been back out working on the boat since I got home from work today and I'm just getting started;)

I just finished all the remaining cuts that needed to be made prior to the resin. Some more sanding and I should be able to get a coat on at least the three main deck pieces done tonight...hopefully:)

I love it H.A. :) The work will ALWAYS be there but the fish may not. You gotta pace yourself on these projects so you don't get burned out! And I think Jas told me fish porn pics are always appropriate!

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Well, back at work after a long weekend... great weather for three days and now it's heaving it down! Although it's no resto there's always plenty to do on the boat to bring it up to my standard so, apart from spending two days out of three on the water I have the following to report (just too motivate HA you understand)!

1. I drilled four, yes FOUR 1/8 inch holes in brackets under my forecastle's gunwales and rivetted four plastic clips in place to locate my speaker wiring. That effort was so exhausting I then had to...

2. Listen to the entire contents of my ipod through my newly wired stereo while failing miserably in my attempts to catch anything!

:D :D Another weekend in paradise! :D :D

Well here's a shot of the lake, nice little lake averages about 15ft deep down to 20+ in some holes. Lots of bass, crappie, bluegill and sunfish. My buddy's camera has all the photos for the time being.

There's supposed to be some perch, pike, and walleye too but I will believe that when I catch one. I was also told that the lake had a 60 foot hole but I have yet to see it on my my Lowrance:D

There were tons of whitefish swimming upstream on a creek that empties out of the lake, I grabbed this one just because I wanted to see what they were. We were catching nice bluegill in there too.

Pretty shallow downstream so you can see there dorsal fins up out of the water like Jaws:cool:

I will post a little video of it later.

Nice work, sounds like you've got a head start on testing the equipment. Keep up the good work and take a break if you need one:)

Sounds like many fishing trips I've taken...but you know what they say, it still always beats a good day workin:D

And just to show you that we always have some fun too...notice how my 4-year-old tries to push the motor down and then grabs the tiller handle:D

If I gave him 10-15 minutes with it he might get it to fire if the handle was in the right spot. That 5.5hp starts easier than a lawnmower.;)

Very cool HA. And, you have the bonus of knowing that by the time the SS 16 is finished (due to more important issues such as fishing :D) your four year old will be old enough to borrow it... and impress the girls with his boat driving skills! Cheers,

Here's the video of the fish swimming upstream:) I did catch an 18" bass but I tossed him back prior to getting a picture.

LOL :D Well, unless you consider 4 old enough to borrow the rig I sure hope you're wrong:)

Ya know what's funny...when we got home I asked him to tell his mother what he liked best about the trip out...and he says "breakin sticks on my knee" since we had taken a little hike on shore and my buddy was showing him how to use leverage.:D

Awww man...your killin me...so much to do, hate taking time off to fish, but now this....well,......your killin me man!

Uh...I'm sorry HSF...I won't do it again:p

I went ahead and covered up the little tinny so I won't be tempted so much;)

I also took the width of this piece of wood off each side of the two main deck pieces. I wanted to make sure that the edges aren't going to be making contact with the hull itself(to avoid squeaks and stuff).

The bow piece was already trimmed accordingly.

These are the lines I used to cut the edges down proportionately.

We got some epoxy resin on the plywood finally. I used a plastic fork in a cordless drill and mixed it up well before brushing it on.

Yes, I used safety equipment again.

Oh, come on buddy. You don't actually think 4 mills of tarp and a couple of bungees will stop the addict do you! Not buying it, not for a second Huron!

Great progress on your deck! I can't wait to get there.

LOL we'll see how it goes with the willpower...so far so good:D

I'll tell ya one thing, this weather ain't helping one bit.

BTW I should have the rig ready to chase fish in the bay up your way before too long.

I'd hate to see you let those riggers sit around untested all summer, so let me know if you want to bolt them on the SS for a shakedown run:p

First top coat of epoxy should be done tonight, second bottom coat tomorrow, then I can start attaching the deck friday before the final top coat of resin. We've got the vinyl ready to go and I got the rig cleaned out again last night too.

Assuming everything goes back together again I could be splashing her by next weekend:)

One other bit of good news...I spoke to a OB mechanic that has great prices and I might take the rig out and let him check out the 80hp Merc on the water so he can get my WOT issues and hard-starting problems worked out.

Assuming I can get the Merc in good running condition I plan on rebuilding the transom after a few weeks of use. Paint is last on my list of priorities but it is on the list.;)

Wait a minute, I think you just tried to swipe my downriggers! I haven't even had them for a day yet! Good effort buddy.

In the water by next weekend, WOW!!!
