Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

I can't imagine trying to spread that epoxy with a foam brush......

LOL I hear ya, hence the wide brushes in addition...I figured maybe for the edges the foam ones would work?

A guy told me that's what people use and they were almost free so I picked them up for the heck of it.

Did you use regular brushes for the sides and edges?

I'm thinking two coats, should I expect the edges to be a little wider once the epoxy is on? If so I will sand or trim them a bit prior to applying so everything fits back together.

I used inexpensive chip brushes. I think a 3 or 4". Throw em away after each coat. Same brush for everything.

LOL...see the main issue here is that my last two trips out were strictly for testing new gear. The trailer for my 12' tinny had to be tested thoroughly so I'd know if those new bearings were up to snuff.

Yesterday I had no choice but to take the afternoon off and help my buddy test his new vintage mini outboard(he doesn't have a tow vehicle anymore due to being laid off and selling his truck:()

So fishing actually has little to do with it...it's all mandatory testing and we just dropped a few lines while we were at it:D

(And if you believe that I've got a near perfect-running 470 I'll sell ya:p)

Yeah those look good, similar to what I've got...the stiffer bristled ones are best for epoxy cause it's pretty thick right?

Yah, how convenient!

I'm not sure what ya do to help pay the mortgage but my gut tells me you aren't in sales partner!

Cheers!

:D:D No sales work for me LOL. Remember...I failed miserably in my attempts to convince you that dual outboards on a bracket would be the way to go on your Islander;)

No mortgage yet either for me since I'm hesitant to commit myself to living in Lansing...too far away from my beloved Lake Huron(although I'm actually holding out for a promotion to Traverse City most likely).:D

Yah, you never had me on the duals, but that was purely financial, nothing to do with your sales technique!

TC would be sweet!

I used one like the second from the left{2 " ?} worked fine...definitely throw a-way's...never had much luck with the foam ones even though the epoxy is not that thick{about paint consistency in my case}....Oh yeah, don't ya just hate that mandatory testing...work work work :D

Hmmm, it's 29 degrees Celcius, the sky is eight-eights blue, there's no wind and I have a weekend of mandatory testing coming up. I CANNOT believe how hard I'm going to have to work... :D

Sounds good to me:D I love your rig Triton...29 degrees usually means pretty cold around here:p

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

I had planned on getting a coat of epoxy applied last night...but my well-intentioned but often misguided perfectionist side showed up and I spent the evening sanding, measuring, sanding again and generally stalling to make sure I'm not going to screw anything up:rolleyes:

We will be ready to go all weekend with the Clarkcraft two part resin. The dang boat keeps getting a little bit of rain mixed with maple tree droppings, can't wait to get her put together so I can keep her covered.

Nicest day we've had this year so far:D (too bad I'm stuck here in the office).

Should be a sweet weekend to make some progress:D

Yeah its horrible being stuck in the office on beautiful days like today. Especially when you do not have very much work to do an there are 100 things you would rather be doing on the boat. At least we have Iboats.

Here are three pieces of the ski locker pieces, riveted down with 8 rivets into the ribs for each piece. I will be buying a third 50 pack of aluminum rivets to finish these.

I was able to recruit some free labor to help get the 5200 in the right places and nowhere else;)

Now that it's warmer outside we can have our two boys play in the yard and actually get lots of work done:D

those are some riveting pictures...

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Well I'm here to report a relapse...I fell completely off the wagon and spent about 25+ hours fishing in the 12' AeroCraft at a private lake. The weather was spectacular and it was futile to resist.

I was out with one fishin buddy friday night...and all day saturday...then my other buddy and my oldest son and I spent the day yesterday chasing bass, crappie, bluegill and sunfish.

We just found out that we can access the lake and I was even lucky enough to leave the rig tied to a dock all weekend so we didn't even have to launch every morning:)

I have some photos to post but they are just fish that we caught and other cool stuff...no progress on the boat.

I have penciled in a weekend camping/fishing trip to Kalamazoo(sister, bro-in-law and nephews live there) on the weekend of May 21st...and we'd love to bring the SS.

I'd better get my a%# in gear if that's gonna happen:rolleyes::D

My friend, I am here to tell you that you need help. Real help. You need therapy. I mean serious stuff, heavy duty sorts.

I am here for you. Know that.

Here is what I am thinking. Myself and the other MI fellas around here will all go out fishing, you too. And we'll fish our brains out. You know, over exposure sort of stuff. Like when your dad caught you smoking and he made you smoke the whole pack sort of therapy. Old school. Lots of fishing.

I am sure that we can help you if you just let us.

Guys, you all need to tell your wives that this is something that we NEED to do to HELP a friend. Are you with me? Huron really needs our help, here and I don't want to let him down. A man in his condition, shoot only the good Lord knows. He may want to...

to...

...fish more!

Oh man, we need an intervention.

Hang on friend, we can get through this together.
