Nice score on the 70 HA, that silver grey will be a huge improvment on the old yeller.

I really don't think you're gonna be a fan of that shiny paint in the end. pretty sure I tried the same stuff on the dash tray of the Jupiter and really didn't like it.

Gotta agree with EZ.

I tried both the "Aluminum" and "Dark Machine Grey" and wasn't really a fan of those colors. The "Light Machine Grey" seemed to be a little more color friendly, eh.:)

Hey Huron... Not sure if this will help but I tried to start a thread on mounting the CMC. The directions are straight forward. Haven't wired it yet but mounting wasn't tough at all. An extra set of hands is nice though
A How to... Installation of CMC PT-130

EDIT: WELL CRAPPOLLA!!! Stole some of the information from u as i noticed reading through it just now... Well just in case you forgot! HAHA :facepalm::facepalm:

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Lookin' at what color you're using, I guess Yellow Submarine or Bumblebee is not her new name. LOL You were pondering keeping the original colors way back in the beginning. I like the new color - much better.

LOL...yeah Roslynn was a strong proponent of keeping her original.

We have strayed from that course a bit, but could always change our minds.

I was not a huge fan of the shiny silver when I first sprayed it, but I've been told by two people that it looks good.

As long as it's as durable as the normal Rusto I might keep it.

However...I have a feeling the finish will not be a hard and tough for some reason.

Thanks Glen, glad that the search for a 70hp is over. I will be spending considerably less time on CL and ebay now.:D

Yeah I know...I'm skeptical too.

Roslynn likes it so we are acting like it's gonna stay for now. If it's too reflective then I'll get out the orbital sander and start over on the side panels and consoles.

It also may look bad since it's so similar to the trim on the consoles and windshield.

Jason, I tried to find the Light Machine Grey and after three stores I gave up.

I wanted a light grey with a hard finish as I mentioned ^^ earlier.

Where did you find it? Don't tell me, I'll guess Menards.;)

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Spent some time working on the transom trim pieces tonight.

Got the main trim and both of the corner caps attached.:)

They are ready to be encounter docks now.:D

I realize that this photo isn't the greatest, I will get some more soon.

Worked the skinny top trim piece over pretty well yesterday with the 3M disc on the cordless drill.

It has a nice brushed aluminum look now.:)

Good choice of beverage there HA, all boat work goes better with a wobbly pop.

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

I've been slacking on posting photos, I will try to get updated today.:)

Here's a look at the prop, could use some new paint but not a priority at this time.

DSCF0701.jpg

The new(old) winch stand painted, just waiting until the boat is in the water to swap it in.

DSCF0699.jpg

Lots of wiring to do still, the biggest challenge remaining.

DSCF0700.jpg

1/2" holes drilled out on the aluminum spreaders.

Need to make sure they are perfect on the top piece that will be visible.

I still think it would be cool to have Starcraft etched into it with the 70s logo.

DSCF0698.jpg

I drilled out the transom again for the four 1/2" bolts.

They fit well, just need a few other items checked off the list before the bracket can be bolted in place.

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

We have acquired some pool noodles, some for behind the side panels, other for the bow.

I'm considering keeping a few under the bow gunwales, that can be easily pulled out for swimming while anchored.:)

DSCF0697.jpg

A look at the port side corner cap/transom trim piece attached.

I used little SS screws and healthy amounts of 5200. Not a perfect job, but structurally it should be sound.:D

I will have some more photos, need to go take some pictures now.:)

HA, great work mate, however, for goodness sake do NOT put that prop on until you clean it up in keeping with the rest of the boat! :p

I did figure out how to replace the relays easily when they are blown. Glad they are cheap.:D

Not sure if the bracket will work under a load or not, but I will be finding out soon enough.:)

I hot wired it off the battery the other day to size it up for mounting, and it worked fine.

Thanks TII! Maybe you're right, a little paint wouldn't hurt I guess:)

We can get Blue at domestic prices here in Mich(not the case in Ohio)...which is good since South Africa and Belgium own the "American" beer companies now.

Bell's and Atwater Block are good Michigan beers, but a bit pricy for boat work.

I'm more than happy to help the economy of our friendly neighbors to the north.:D

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Here's some JB weld that I used to fill four holes in the transom skin that are not being used.

The top left one could use a bit more since it dripped out a bit, but this stuff works great.:)

I put painter's tape over the stuff to keep it from dripping and that worked well on the other three.

DSCF0703.jpg

Once the drain tubes are installed(broke one, more being shipped:facepalm:) I will be attaching the splashwell.

I'm planning on using the same SS screws that I used on the transom trim piece, but I'm considering rivets.

I believe most folks have used screws here but I have to check.

Blue is my standard fridge beer, save the Bell's for when I go out for dinner, unless my wife picks up one of the mini kegs.

On of these days I have to get over the border and grab some Bradors.

Great work on the boat HA.

I would use screws much easier for do-overs.

Definately screws.
Did you say BRADORS? I thought Molson stopped brewing that. I'd love to get a few cases of that but couldn't find it last time I was in Montreal visiting friends. (5 1/2 hrs)
