Another tip... On PL squeeze out smooth it out with a plastic spoon dipped in mineral spirits. That helps too.

If you cover the fresh PL w/ a heavy mil plastic, it will help minimize bubbling. But will probably add 24+hrs to cure time:

PL fillets

Note: On at least 1 occasion, the author of that site, took a pin to some of the bubbles.

Thanks for the link jb, intersting for sure.

Thanks for the tip wood...I think I will be cutting a larger orifice on the tube, laying a generous worm of PL and lay the parts down. If it goes the way I want it to, I wont have to touch it....but as we all know, Murphy will likely show up :)

Anytime GT...I been looking for an update from you btw.

I really wanted to see what this PL did, as I have never used it before. Glad I did, changed my perspective quite alot.

72 hrs + and the PL is still pliable.

Got some larger washers and lock washers for the safety chains put on today.

The red marker lights came in so got them mounted.

Bugs were eating me up so did not stay to get the wiring completed.

Besides, need something to do over the weekend.

PL will still be pliable after 72 hrs but normally the outgassing will be done and you can glass over it. Try applying a tab of resin and glass over it and see what happens.

I hope to have glassing materials in a couple weeks. I may have found a local supplier, more to come on that as I get more info.

It actually looks like it could be glassed with no problem.

Hey Trooper,
I set all my stringers in place and built a jig to hold them. I used a 1/4" round dowell rod to rasie them off the hull.
I cut the tube of PL with a large opening and squirted the PL under the stringer. I used the spoon and MS to smooth out
the PL and let the PL make the fillets. I didn't need to use the PB on the stringers.

If I had to do it all over again I would not use the PL. I would go with the PB. It is much faster and easier to do and you don't
have to wait for the cure time. Just my 2 cents worth.

That is intersting Decker. Maybe I have the wrong thing in my head, I thought I needed to use both to bed the stringers?

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

If you look at OOPS thread he is always saying to use the PB to bed with.
I used the PL and didn't like it. It was messy and took a long time to setup and the
stringers can move around if you don't have them secure.

I didn't use the PB to fillet the stringers. I let the PL over run and smothed it out. It was a mess.

Give Opps a pm and ask what he thinks.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

I got the wiring finished on the trailer. Took it around the block to see how the trailer pulls after all the new bushings and parts were put in. Pulls like a cloud, I am pretty happy with the outcome. I still need to get the brakes fixed. Have not had much luck yet on a master cylinder or shock, but still looking. It may be just as easy and quick to get a new coupler and weld it on.

I hope to have materials ordered this coming week for glassing.

I won't be back on the project till the following week though.

Very close and dear friend of mine passed away this week and will be travelling to pay my respects.

Troop, check the link in my signature, I have revised the stringer install. Here's the deal. PB can be used for bedding. I like PL due to the flex even when cured. I DON'T like the Wait time sooooo... if you only use a small bead the size of your index finger, bed the stringer and don't let the PL squeeze out, you can then do the filleting with the PB. If you don't want to wait for the cure time of the PL then just use the PB. Truth be known most mfg's don't bed the stringers in anything so whatever you do will be better than what they did. Filleting with PL is not the way to go. I'be been convinced by the experiences of to many others bad experiences.

Wood glad you posted this. I think i will lay a bead under them, just for the flexibility, I am in no rush to get her done so I can wait on the cure.

Thanks JB.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Every little bit of works goes towars the final tally.......so........

I took a few minutes to pull the bow rail off. It is in real good shape, jusy needs a few riveets replaced and the front piece is corroded. Otherwise looks like new. I plan on pulling the cap once I get the stringers and floor in. Will be doing that so I have easy access to the under part for replacing wood and getting wiring in etc..

That's a good idea to stiffen the hull before removing the cap.

Originally I had planned not to remove the cap, but thinking I may as well, seeing how far I am into it now. I don't want to do it till I know things will stay the way they are for sure.

Sorry to hear about your friend. My prays or with you and your friend family.

Thanks Decker....was really sad news...just 49.....so young...will miss him greatly. He was an avid fisherman and was excited to see how I did on the rebuild here.

Troop,

I lost my Best Friend Two years ago. I've never really gotten over it. My heart goes out to you! Stay strong and with time it will get better. Remember Frisco did all of his outstanding work with the cap on. With I/O's it's possible to do.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

BTW Troop,

Thoughts and prayers to your friends Family and to you and yours in this sad time...

I have lost many friends, some very young, all the others, way too soon...

Last few years, a lot of my Family has passed on...

For what it's worth, I always console myself knowing that their souls are up there, somewhere, smiling kindly upon the rest of us left behind and waiting for the time when we can all reunite...
