To end the suspense....

DSCF0131.jpg

5 gallons of gelcoat - check
1 gallon of PVA - check
2qt pressure pot - check
line dryer/cheater valve/teflon tape/cut off valve - check
New respirator cartidges - check
zoot soot - check
mixing cups - check
MEK - check
gallon of resin - check
rags - check
masking tape - check
gelcoat color - not checked...
scaffolding - not checked...

Well I got a little excited over the nice weekend we are expecting...these are things I will need to finish the gelcoat spraying...but I do have some sanding to do yet...I wanted to try the sytem out though and see if my compressor can keep up...imagine I will be needing to rent the gas unit again...this should keep me busy this weekend in one way or another....

Having doubts about adding a second color to my first attempt at spraying gel... mos worrisome is how the edge lines will work...precautions required...etc...going to put the spray equipment together as I am browsing the instructions...hope I got the right one...it was the cheaper of the 2 models, but has a 1.8mm tip vs the 1.4 on the higher dollar unit...

Hey Tropper, Glad to see you almost there. I am debating on gel or paint. Why did you decide to go with gel? Any good points over paint?

Thans C-T...I just all along think I wanted gel...reading so many posts on how tough it is, and easy to fix...and my painting skills aren't all that great...but I can sand...see this thread for the past 2 months...

I have read a thread by a fellow Iboater across the pond...morebass17 (base not bass)...he did an awesome job on his gelcoat job...inspired me...I have read that thread I know 10 times, maybe more...good info in it...

I was almost ready to go with painting, but being outside in the elements also deterred me...gel cures quick, paint not so much...

Troop, you sound like you were a kid in a candy store. Nice grabs.

As for the spray gun, the cheaper one is the right one (per wog & yt dr). Wog pointed me at 2.2 tip on amazon, but it did not fit the gun. Yt dr says the 1.8 is fine. I think that will be true for someone with experience, but I plan to find a 2.2 for mine. I think it will make things easier for this novice.

Thanks for the advice...I bet you will do good with a 1.8 or 2.0 either one...I thought I had read on here somewhere which was right one, but ib the heat of the moment starting having doubts I got the right one..ya know?

Have a great weekend CK..

Troop,

that's the right gun. remove the Air Cap from the gun and post a pic. I want to see the TIP. I really think a 2.0 to 2.5mm tip would be much more satisfactory IF we can find one. Problem with HF is they don't usually sell replacement tips. If I can see the tip I might be able to find you the correct one.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Happy Saturday...

I had hopes of getting this sewing machine I found on CL in Ft. Wayne...I had someone that was going to go pick it up for me and ship it...selller wants $40 bucks for it...a steal!

But...seller is not answering my calls, so he must have got rid of it...
Necchi.jpg

Was a cool 46 degrees here this morning...sanded all the fairing I did the other night..just the cap...then took the Mrs to a flea market in Lafeyette...about an hour and 15 minutes down the highway...pretty much a wasted trip...nothing like the flea markets we had back in Ohio...was hoping to maybe score a sewing machine...oh wait...thread injector....

After the trip back finished sanding the fairing on the hull..washed it down and put the tarp back on it to keep the bug carp and pecan tree carp off of it...tomorrow, I may just flip it on it's side to finish the glassing of the wooded blocks along the gunwhales...

Troop good to see you keepin on! I like that injector I must say I do have a nack for stitchin have for numerous years (required course in middle school) been doing it ever since kids always have me making or fixing something. Nice start on matrials for the Gel coat stage of resto I know you'll do fine with your attention to detail I bet before this resto is done your gonna own a nice air compressor able to handle all those jobs your renting for. If it helps right around page #35 + or - on Ooops hull restoration thread gives a good explanation on how the bottom of the hull, keel and strakes are reformed you may want to look into it for clarity before commiting to the gel stage.

Wog, when I received the one you found, the diameter of the threaded end was about 1/8 bigger that the HF threads. Hope this helps.

Edit: that's 1/8 inch

The hull looks great.
Nice score on the suppies. Where did you get the gel coat from. Are you planing to tint it.
Are you using the PVP instead of the wax. If so, how did you come to that decision.
Good luck with the trial spraying. Looking forward to see how it works for you.

It looks like where both half way there on the sanding. :D
