It is sooo nice to hear her run. When are you hitting the water? Also I bet she will get quiet when you drop her in.

Re: '77 Luhrs 28 ft. diesel repower - just beginning

Thanks guys! I've scheduled the launch for Tues the 14th. I need 1 more weekend to tidy up a bunch of little things, plus I want to replace the carpeting in the cabin (which was fine when I bought the boat but I've ruined it since). I mainly want to secure everything better. Right now I have a lot of stuff held together with tie-wraps, mostly because I wasn't sure if my raw water routing was going to work.

I greatly appreciate everybody's positive comments and encouragement during the last 10 months. I promise you a few action videos once she's out on the water.

Sounds like she is ready to push around 28' of boat:D

Glad to hear the diesel running, sounds good and loud like a couple Kubotas idling:)

I'm in sort of a mad rush to get some aesthetic improvements done before she hits the water. Tonight after work I painted the deck. The 34 year old gelcoat was shot and it stained easily. Also all that white was hard on the eyes so I decided to go with gray.

The gray also says "PT Boat" to me. I like that.

Tomorrow the paint is going to get baked on in 90-degree sunshine all day while I'm at work. Hopefully that'll make it tough.

By the way the paint is a non-skid type made by Pettit. We'll see how it holds up.

looks good, I like the PT boat theme! Maybe we could find one of those big Packard's for your next refit project!

I like the "non-white" idea. Shows a lot less dirt and grime and it's "different". I have a buddy that painted his deck a tannish color and it's really grown on me. This boat is so awesome and you've done great work on her. Looking forward to a successful launch!

Thanks guys! emoney: I was thinking the same thing, that the gray won't look dirty instantly the way white does.

Thankfully the forecast is for it to cool down to the mid-70's for the weekend here in Jersey. I plan to put new carpeting in the cabin on Saturday and do some other stuff. I'm also going to run the engine with garden hose cooling at least 1 more time before the launch.

I'm taking Tuesday off work to throw her in the water. Barring some embarrassing screwup I should be able to post a video of her maiden voyage Tues night.

Thanks again for all the positive comments.

Fantastic news. Can't wait to see the splash. Nice work on the grey paint Luhrs, for next season you could put in a 20ft hull extension and paint her grey all over... PTB's rock! :D

I finally got around to putting the name decal on the transom. I was actually quite nervous about this because with a big decal you get 1 shot at it. If you screw it up there's usually no way to reposition it. But the decal came with good instructions and I had no problems.

I also cleaned the whole boat to get her ready for launching. The dinette area is my favorite part of the boat, because it combines boating and eating/drinking. What could be better than that?

My sister made the striped cushion covers.

I ran the engine one more time on the garden hose this morning. She's all ready for launching on Tuesday.

Triton: Let me just mention I brought my sister the fabric and foam rubber in January and just got the cushions 2 weeks ago. So yes if you have 6 months to wait for them she's perfect.

Great timing on her behalf thought, shows she's on top of her TMPFL... Time Management Program For Luhrs! My sister would've taken years! :D

You might want to postpone the launch of this might ship. As good as it's looking, you may never return from her. At least put the house on the market.......
