And does this look like its supposed te have stringers in the grooves or not? I know they're the grooves in the hull, but, wouldn't they have stringers too?

Hey SnowHunter,
Looks like you have a nice project going on here, its nice to see the entire family helping :). For removing foam I found a shovel makes short work of it.
A guess for that little box in the pic, might be a good spot to put a bilge pump.

Keep up the good work and the pics coming

Regards,
Bill

Hey Bill!

Yeah, we had the E-tool and a big shovel last night...we got that foam out in bout 10 minutes :D Parked my ol 79 F150 next to the boat, and just shoveled it all into the bed! Makes it easier then bagging it all up, for sure!

Today is gonna be a 4 parter :D All 4 of us workin on it!!! Gonna give the kids some screwdrivers so they can enjoy some time mauling the foam before we break it up n scoop it out.

I'll keep the pics comin!!!! :)

Not necessarily, the shape actually gives it some strength kinda like putting a fold in a piece of paper. At least thats my own opinion, wait for others to add their thoughts I'm still fairly new at this :)

Welcome to iboats. Another cool yellow boat from the late 70s? :D Looks like a great family project you've got going.

I'm not experienced with fiberglass restoration but I can recommend that you check out oops' thread on his hull extension. Lots of tips on glass work and it even has an index to help you find stuff:)

I have a '71 80hp Merc that is very similar also. If you end up having questions regarding the motor just post a new thread in the merc OB section, there are a few experienced members that have all kinds of info and like to help folks out.

Good luck to ya!

Yeah...its YELLOW!!!! Though my Son has informed me its bein painted red! So...I'm thinkin a dark red w/metalflake on the bottom, and keep the white on top! But, thats a ways off.

Thanks for the tip on Oops thread, it sure will come in handy!!!!

Hubs has been designated as the go to for the OB (He's a mechanic!) :D Gonna have him walk me through all the woth though, so I can learn too~ He's a member too..his1911.

I've been readin the OB section a good bit the last few days, and it has helped a great deal.

Thanks!!!!!!!

Yep, I'm now a member here also, but it seems during the day I'm working on a boat and at night I'm working on a metals shredder ! LOL
Most of the OB issues seem to be wiring related then a good service/tune-up/wake-up and we should be good-to-go!!!!

So after this required too much "move with a purpose" In otherwords, it involved me and hubby jacking the bow up on 2x4x8's and then me drivin the boat out from under it and helpin him lower it. Ida been dead meat if I stopped for a pic!!

Here she is without the top!
23.jpg

At that point, we were left with this....
20.jpg

So I backed the F150 up carefully, and pulled up the hill some to move the top into a better spot.
15.jpg

Once it was off the truck, Na straightened it out and voila!!

And this was what was left inside! Should be easy enough to get cleaned out.
18.jpg

Oh, and the leak was on the bottom of the storage bin on the port side of the bow. That would explain dry foam and mushy stringer!!! Leaked right down the center!

Well for my 2 cents LOL....
I like it without the top I'm offering to add some kinda rail to rivet it to that would hold it rigid then reinforce the bottom and it'd look like some kinda "super-jon boat" LOL LOL

In all seriousness though, I did tell "snowy" we would finish the '79 F150 project next and paint it to match the boat an trailer kinda a "that 70's fishing rig" deal { 79 Ford F150 S/C, 77 Bayliner, '75 Mercury OB } LOL.

Well,
It looks like you are off to a good start. A lot of it looks familiar.
Most of us have been there too. Just keep plugging away.
It's nice to see the entire family helping out.
Keep the pic's coming.

Hubs decided to go ahead n knock the glass off the top of the transom....
44.jpg

As you can see, it didn't get glassed much. Its actually a piece of 3/4 ply backed with a 1/2 or 5/8 ply
42.jpg

Oh! And, guess what the reg #'s are on the boat? I shoulda looked closer when we bought it.... :O

girl i cant believe your grinding f/g in shorts and a short sleeve shirt:eek:, i feel like sissy, i where dickies work pants and 2 long sleeve tshirts at least, some times a tyvek suit, its getting to hot here already for a tyvek suit.

and please go to lowes/hd and buy a proper respirator those paper masks are not suitable(pos)for what your doing. when f/g gets in your lungs it will not move out, you know how your proly itchin right now??? imagine that in your lungs. i want to see ya finish this thing and enjoy it for a loooooong time with your kids without an oxy tank. get the saftey stuff hooked up ok?;)
