I haven't done a whole lot of work this weekend. My wife's uncle came over yesterday and we picked up a majority of the ply and some of the other materials i needed. I still have to pick up the fiberglass materials hopefully today or tomorrow.

We did get the first layer of the transom cut and fitted.

That's a gratifying step for sure. Keep plugging away, you'll be on the water one day and so rightfully proud of your hard work!

It definitely is! The smell of fresh cut wood opposed to rotting wood is great.

Its going to be another slow day. It's hot out and no circulation in the garage. I shaved a few spots on the transom wood to get it to sit a little nicer. I'm going to try to get it all cut then use PL to bond the 2 pieces today. I plan on picking up my fiberglass stuff tomorrow. Found a place a few miles from my house. It's more expensive then US Composits but for no delivery wait times and the convenience of being close is worth the few bucks.

I have read alot of back and forth about bonding the transom to the hull with PL. I know using peanut butter is the ideal choice.

Due to it just being me putting the transom in with no help the extended work time of PL seems like a better choice to get it in place and clamp

Is there anything wrong with using PL for this I have read people will only use it to people will never use it and has me conflicted?

Yea pl can duck up your day and it certtainly has applications. Its all about the gassing off that messes up your glass and the time you have to wait. Waiting depends on conditions. I used it on my transom for something, not the whole thing and the glass seem to take forever not to bubble up. Still regret using it.
Oh yea back to having to install the piggy by yourself, I actually drilled cabinet handles on the oink oink so I could lift it easier. Filled later and glassed.

The waiting will suck. I was planning on spreading it with a trowel setting in place then clamping. My main concern with using peanut butter is it curing before I can get it fully clamped. I am using 2x4s with threaded rod for my clamps so the getting in and out of the boat is going to eat all my time up. I do plan on doing test runs to see what the actual time it will take

I will heed your warning. I will just wait to set it until I can get a helping hand and use resin

You do understand that as you make the transom with pb you can screw the shiiit out of it or clamp it. Then let that set until cured.
Next after its set up you install it with the pb. Right?
Grease the rods with something so the pb doesn't stick to them.

Yes. My plan was to make clamps like Frisco boater did with 3 or 4 2x4s on each side with threaded rod squeezing them together through the keyhole. I am planning to make PB with poly resin cabosil and 1/4 chop strand. trowel onto the backside of the transom wood and then place and clamp.

I still have to encapsulate the transom wood in CSM (plans for tomorrow)

Thats right on the money! Cool. You'll do fine. Pics will be hard whereas you'll be sweating your potatoes off and have sticky hands. Be ready to remove or fillet the squeeze out. A little babysitting required.

So if you get a buddy to help you lift and place the transom definitely do a dry run.

I am considering dealing with the drain hole on my transom like Frisco boater did, notch the transom above the drain hole and use a small section of pvc pipe then use PB around it. My original transom had a hole through the transom.

Is there any reason why I should not do this? Or is there a better way to have the water go through the transom wood?
