Looking good Mark. Jeez that's a lot of sanding, will be pretty when she's finished! Too bad about adding the knotch, oh well you gotta do what ya gotta do, even if it means you need to go backwards for a moment, it's still progress.

She had twins well almost. The second engine should be done this weekend and probably in the next week or two I will put them in the boat.

This Dude is always on it!
Nice work Mark!! Always a pleasure to see how your moving along. I'm in the middle of a minor relocation in the same area and am prepping the boat to go with me. Haven't been able to do much lately but it's always great to see guys like you, Minch, Corjen, Sam, Wog, Zool, GM280. Arch and a whole lot of others kicking it out.
Good work!:grouphug:

Stupid question#214. I am trying to remember how the power steering pump hoses and cooler were hooked up. The starboard engine that had the power steering pump, hoses and cooler attached was the engine I pulled out 13 years ago. I cant remember how it was hooked up. Where did the raw cooling water tap into and then where did the water exiting the cooler hook into. Is there a certain way the water and hydraulic lines are supposed to be hooked up. The pictures attached are off the internet but similar to mine. I vaguely remember the cooler hanging on the block under the manifold.

Another question. I am looking at replacing some stickers on my valve covers. I already replaced the original Mercruiser and 165hp sticker.

There is another on the side for oil and fuel recommendations. I can live without it but I like the way the engines look with original stickers.

Mark, I don't have his contact info anymore, but the was a guy in Canada that makes reproduction stickers. I bought mine from him. He was able to add "power trim" to mine to match the orginal stickers. He was on ebay, you might search for him...he more or less told me he could make any sticker if he had a picture ans scale refrence.

Woe, go to eBay and type in Phantom decal Mercruiser 165. That should get you there.

Ok, I have the hoses and water cooler issues figured out on the power steering pump except I don't have the hoses and new ones are about $100. I have good ends on either side of the hoses someone just cut the hoses off on both of the donor boat engines I have. I am wondering if I can splice these hoses together using a short piece of copper pipe, clamps and a length of good 3/8 inch hose or is it too high of pressure. also Does anyone out there have a picture of their Chevy 250 with a power steering pump showing some close ups of the brackets I can't find any of the old parts, pumps brackets that were on the starboard engine which had the power steering pump attached, it was the engine I pulled 13 years ago.

Definitely too high pressure to splice, you'll need a new high pressure hose for sure. If you want to save some money, you can try this company: classic tube. I bought stainless steel braided brake hose from them for my dodge truck. They have an excellent selection of hydraulic high pressure hose, I used standard AN ss hose with adapters to mate to the calipers. If you send them your old hose, I'm sure they could replicate for you too.
As far as the return low pressure side, use standard reinforced rubber fuel line, or power steering hose with hose clamps. I'm sure you could easily find an adapter from flare to 3/8 tube for the low pressure port, very similar to what they use on automotive rack and pinions.
As far as brackets to mount the pump, I used 3.0L stuff myself, likely mounts the same way. I'll try to get some close ups of how it goes together tomorrow.
Goodnight!
