Zool & Wood, thanks for sharing your wisdom on these things, it means a lot to me. I will wait until Wednesday after work, can't wait to see how it turns out.
Another question for the boat painters out there or whoever has an opinion on this the more the better. I want to paint the cap white. Should I go High Gloss White or a semi gloss white.
Glad you picked that up right away, I love that part in the film haha, always comes to mind whenever I'm detailing anything. And the movie's 30 yrs old, 1 yr older than me, so I hope you haven't sat on the couch that long :behindsofa:
You're gonna have one sweet shiny new looking Formula when your done. Almost there! Bet you wish you could hop in a DeLorean right about now to speed things up a bit!
Yep the first one came out in 1985 and I was 22 years old and life was good :very_drunk:. Living here in Panama City, had a 21' boat and fishing all the time. If I had the Delorean I would go back, with what I know now or maybe not I would probably just make it worse :black_eyed:
Well I took the variable speed polisher I got from HB and took a compound wax then a polish to the transom.
it's not a perfect finish like you might find with a high $$$ gel coat finish but for what I spent on it so far it looks darn good and I know when I paint the sides I will be better at painting and it will look great. As far as the polisher from HB I think I got a bad one. It has multiple speed setting but it keeps running up to full RPMs and won't even adjust speeds so I am taking it back and getting another one. I am willing to give them another shot.
Corjen and Arch thanks. Here is another pic. The paint is not purple it's more bluish I guess at night and with the flash. I was just trying to show the smoothness.
Looking good Mark. The color looks very close to what I plan to paint my Coronado ..... maybe on your way to Okie land to visit Wood, you can swing up through the Pittsburgh area and do some teaching. I won't be ready until bout next Feb so that would be a nice break for you from all that nice Florida weather. lol
Thanks for the support Nurse and kcassells I am just trying to reach the iboats standards you guys keep setting, not an easy task because you guy are :first:.
89resorter I do have family just a few hours north of you in the small town of Cochranton. I love PA this time of year. Good memories of as a kid building dams in Sugar Creek and looking for crawdads, apple orchards and tractor pulls at the fair across the street from my grandfathers house. Now winter time climbing over the 6 foot snow drifts to get on the bus because they didn't cancel school for anything :smow: , as an adult now I don't miss that as much.
Sorry to hear about the VS Polisher problems. Take it back. Mine works Great!! had it for 3 yrs and use it a lot. My son uses it on his VW Bus and I use it on the boat and the Truck. Never had an issue. But there are Lemons!!!
The paint turned out very nice. It appears you're getting the hang of the settings and the mix. You'll only get better as you go. If you're going to err, I'd err on the thin side. You can add more paint to thicken it up a bit. Atomization is key to not getting the OP. At least that's been my experience. If it dries before it can settle and smooth you're gunna get OP.
