Re: 1990 Chris Craft 254 Seahawk ( Refurb and upgrades)

Had a couple rough days here, just found out my dad has stage one lung cancer. Stage one is the good news, they caught it real early. more tests to see if it has spread at all today. Will know something on the tenth. My dad has been my go to guy my whole life, he is an awesome person and has been the number one dad for years. Prayers welcome. I hope he gets good news on the tenth.

Won't be talking about it much, just wanted everyone to know if I'm a little cranky, that may be the reason.

On the boat related things, I did have to sand down the teak again to get rid of the light spots, that pizzed me off to and dropped my phone off the boat and broke it! rrrrgh.

I got one of the new controllers in today for the leds.

Man, sorry to hear about your dad. Hoping and praying for good medical care and healing. My mom has beaten cancer twice, and my dad had early stage (but very curable) form recently removed, so I'm all too familiar with the C-word. I will say, positive attitude and good support helped my Mom just as much as modern medicine. That boat project can be good therapy too...

I know you don't want to talk about it much, but don't hesitate to post or PM if you need to....

Hope it goes your dad's way, caught it early and all.... good thoughts your family's way!

You'll be happier knowing the teak's all sanded down, besides sanding can be mind numbing. Which for the next few days or so, that will be a good thing. Only thing better for me to clear my mind & get lost in my thoughts was riding the motorcycle along the vacant desert highway at dusk @Vegas. Nothing to look at, nothing to distract you, focus on riding safe & let it take me out of town. Out to the little city outside Area 51 & back.

All our best & take all the time you need.

May the CC be re-splash ready for Thunder & all can hit the river w/ you & enjoy it, for many, many more moons.

Sorry to hear of your Dad, CC. My dad has just come through lung cancer in the last couple of years (remission right now). Much like you and your Dad, he's pretty important to me. He shouldn't have survived ... and yet, through many prayers he did. Take heart, man. I'll be praying for your dad.

Ok, let me think, how do I say this politely, ummm, umm, O' I got it!!! NOT GOING TO HAPPEN GOOFY!!!! lol:D

Not true, the bow trim is "screw on" and the screws will not be seen after dowel plugs are installed, sanded down and coated to match the rest of the trim boards.;)

my head really hurt from all that yelling, however,
you get a pass,
sorry to hear about your dad, my thoughts and prayers go out to you both.
a positive attitude will help him fight what is infront of him, rally the support troops and get all the ducks in a row. make him lean on you going forward. and most importantly tell him how much you love him.

i am 6 years out of stage 4 nonhodgkins lymphoma, agressive, thank god, and the chemo blend knocked it out of the park
so i do understand not only whats goin on in your head but your pop's as well.
my best advice is let your dad be himself and enjoy the support you can give him in his time of need

again my thoughts and prayers go out to you both

Thank you all for the kind words and support. Sounds like this is a tough group of people that visit my thread. I truly consider you all my friends and definately appreciate everything that has been said. :)

My dad has had copd for many years and the doctors will have to make a discision on wether his heart can handle surgery etc. He was on an oxygen bottle after a knee replacement. They said he would probably never come off the bottle. Going on 2 years now that he hasn't had to wear the oxygen, he is a tough sob. As tough as he is, we know cancer is also a tough sob. Were all hoping for great news next week but are prepared to go to battle if we have to.

Thanks again guys.

Still working on the bow teak, no pics yet. Also been making progress on the river project. Here's some pics. The lower deck boards are just sitting there, ready for install tomarrow. But the steps and landing are pretty close to done other than a couple misc things. The railing will get spindles, I hate to do it, but it has to have them for safety.

Thanks man, it was definately alot more work to have the decking run all on direction, jig sawing/coping in the rck really gave it a slick look. The railings are so clean looking right now, especially being on the water, I hate to spindle it, but it is what it is. Still have a huge project ahead on this job, still have to frame in about a 40 X 30 area and straighten and deck the existing docks. Thats going to be a job. Job security though, can't complain.

That railing would look nice done in tempered glass like a condo balcony but that would be a few bucks I'm sure.

Sweet work man. Hopefully they appreciate the craftsmanship.

Re: 1990 Chris Craft 254 Seahawk ( Refurb and upgrades)

Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. Got the other remote/control box in saturday. Installed all wiring and light strips. Still working on finishing the tea bow trim. For some reason after sanding the face of the trim, the top edge is darker than the face after varnishing. Might have to sand it all down which is going to be a pita, but it is what it is. Just happy to have all the wiring fished and hooked up. The wiring still needs to be cleaned up, but that will just take a few minutes during the week.

Now, for the f'd up part. After installing the bow light strips, and wiring everything up permenant, one of the light strips has a short in it. Probably from stepping on it or bending it to much when I removed it to finish the teak. I could splice a short piece in so the rest of the strip works, but I really want it right so, I will be ordering the silicone incased strips, because I am really not happy with the resin incased strips.

Also, I ordered the new control boxes from two different people online, hoping the controllers would not work on the other strips. leaving me with the option I had before of controlling them seperate. Well, no luck there either, both controllers control all the lights, so I have to find out what I need to do there also, going to contact the people I ordered them from and see what they have to say.

Anyway, plugging along slowly. Need to pull the outdrive off, this coming week. Never done that before so, hope everything goes smoothly. If not, thunder may be a blunder.

Re: 1990 Chris Craft 254 Seahawk ( Refurb and upgrades)

i have a suggestion for the controller issue, mount the eye for the remotes on opposite sides of the cockpit, or one in the bow and one in the stern. they are somewhat directional so you should have the ability to use them independently with the same remote, however the farther away you are the signal will be picked up by both ir controllers until the remote doesn't reach. i would go for right and leftmost part of the dash to keep the eye outa the weather.

hope it helps

i would use the resin incased ones in the cabin

whadya gotta do to the leg?

The antennas are the other issue, right now I have them in a great location, but They don't seem to have much range. The very first IR controller I had, I could switch off and on via remote from probably 200 ft away. I will be getting some different stuff in and researching the products further. I need to know what kind is best and what controllers do what if I am going to do some side work with these.

My boat is kinda the test vehicle. :)

The remotes in the way my thinking takes me, should be somewhat like a garage remote, where it is coded to the garage door opener. I have a feeling I am going to have to contact someone in china to get straight answers.

The outdrive has to come off, because stupid me pulled a drain plug that wasn't a drain plug when winterizing. The little NON drain plug use to be under a cobra sticker, so normally wouldn't be seen at all, Found out after I had already removed it. It had a steel clip on the backside that is now somewhere in the area of the plug, but inside the outdrive. have to remove it just to get that little fricken clip out, Arrgggg

s far as the banded remotes go, mine have very lil range as well. i know it might seem a lil funny but take the ir and the remote to radio shack, they might have something that can help:D. i think the weak link, on mine anyways, is the remote works great but does feel a lil cheesy, i bet you can get a beefier model. i'll do some homework and let you know if i come up with anything.

great news about the outdrive, although a pita nothings broke :D,,,, yet,,,lol
you got an outdrive manual for her? the exploded views should help along the way.
i thought you were gonna say the oil was mud, or this grinding noise has been happening for the last few summer.lol,,,bahaha

as far as thunder goes, get them business cards ready:D.

i know you don't wana talk about it, but hows pop?

Yeah, radio shack will probably have something to extend the signal or something. The very first control box I have has a sensitivety setting, like a knob on the bottom, also a place to plug in a stereo. So what I thought was the same as I had really was not. Anyway, it will all work out in the end. I like the remotes, think it is the cheesy wire with the infared light that has to have a direct signal that sucks.

Dad has had all the testing done, he was cleared for surgery and as far as they can tell, it has NOT spread. So as good as news as he could have gotten at this point. He will be going into surgery Thursday.
