Re: 1990 Chris Craft 254 Seahawk ( Refurb and upgrades)

thanks,
gotcha,
so all lights run independantly directly into the rf control box which means your rf can handle 4 seperate lights or series.
good to know.and great for planning.
i was thinking of running them 2 sides, each in its own series and splicing right before and then into the rf box.

i guess i need more info on the rf in the kit.(from amazon)
and thanks on the dc heads up,
i was eyeng up the ac model and was trying to figure how i was gonna splice that into power safetly
i did leave message on the site you used xtremeled. not alot of info there but we'll see what the future brings

thanks for the help

The lights I have you can run two complete rolls in series, which is alot of lights. I only bought one roll and it did everything I did so far. I will be adding some to the interior and the bait wells, engine compartment etc in the future. These lights draw very little power, thats whats really great about them.

Rob at Xtremeled said his site was going to be redone. It basically has nothing on it, if your interested you can contact him at 954-444-8650. Tell him Budd recommended him to you. Nice guy and will point you in the right direction even if you don't purchase from him.

The engine cover installed great. The interior room above the motor hasn't changed much at all. The air flow should not be an issue at all as you can see in the pictures below. The cover is definately heavier than before, but I expected it to be. Being on hinges that tilt it forward, the weight is a non issue. Of coarse it has added some weight to the boat, give a little, take a little. Hope when I get a chance to run her, the sound will be deadened some.

The seal that contacts the floor looks like it is going to work well. Its funny, I step on this cover when getting in and out of the boat. I really didn't notice just how unsolid it was before. Now that it is done, you can definately notice just how solid it is when you step down on top of it. also noticed a big difference when tilting it forward and closing it. I'm Happy!:D

And yes the boat if filthy!

Hmmmmm, how many frosty adult beverage containers can you get out of, oh, I don't know, lets say a 22' AL Islander*?

Ok , back to the bottom paint. I bought some stripper that I found at my local Benjamin Moore paint store. Its a gel type so it should stick to the surface well. This is a Marine stripper and is gelcoat safe.

I'm trying a couple methods, one is to spray it on, and scrape it off. The other is to spray it on, cover with wax paper, then scrape it off. I am playing with the time that the stripper is left on and will be trying other stripper products as well to compare.

I will post some more pics of my success tomarrow. The stripper seems to be working alot better than the oven cleaner did. It softens the outer layer pretty quick, but I do think it will need to be reapplied a few times.

Ok, well the Ready strip stripper is basically not worth the bottle it is sitting in. I thought at first it was going to work well, not any better than the easy off imo.

I am running some tests on some other products because I have heard 100 different ways and products to use to strip the bottom paint. I have some videos made showing the tests, will post shortly.

Here is a pic of some of the port side that has aready been wet sanded to 1500. Not even compounded and waxed yet. If the whole hull looks this good when I am done stripping off the paint and wet sanding, I will be a happy camper.

Re: 1990 Chris Craft 254 Seahawk ( Refurb and upgrades)

The photo looks great, was any of the strippers much less effort or money well spent(paid more for stripper that worked better or was less work to remove is good) then the oven cleaner that looked like it worked, but required alot of elbow grease to get 100%?

Really going to look good, but man that's alot of hull to have to sand through to 1500, after stripping, and before rubbing compound and wax:eek:. Wax on Wax off, 1st with the left, then w/ the right!:D We don't want you to bulk up unevenly doing all that work right handed.

Have a good day off today.
