everyone thinks its closed to finished they have no clue how much I got left to do , lol final coat everything and the hull , that will take time all on its own then complete inside and wire up stereo vhf possibly cb and depth finder/fish finder , anyone have any suggestions as far as a good fish finder /depth finder chart plotter ? does such a beast even exist?, looking to minimize impact on dash and would like all the gadgets lol

I have Lowrance HDS7's on my boat. I have a pair that are networked together. That way one always stays on Gps and the other is depthfinder. Also this way I have a backup in case one goes out. Might be overkill but I have to go along way to get to the Gulf Stream.

yeah I'm just going inland on a 17 footer since I'm on east coast , I would love to take it in the gulf but that will require a trip to the west coast lol

I'm pretty much decided against cb don't think many boaters use them anymore no need for extra hole, thoughts?

If you just on inland waters, get a good floating handheld vhf. I carry one of these as a backup on my big boat and also use it as the main radio on my beach cruiser.
Standard Horizon HX870 Handheld VHF with GPS.

My family uses CB's but maybe we're the only ones 😕
They come in handy when you figure out the fish are biting on something else and want to pass the word on. I don't like using the phone on the boat as my batteries usually going dead or is plugged into my stereo. Maybe the westcoast rains have messed with my brain.

They sure do take up room though
😒

EDIT: I have a marine VHF radio. Forgot I pulled the CB out.

well since I'm in build phase I decided what the hell I will pop a cb in they are cheap and you are right allot of my friends on budgets use cb from truck to boat, so I will toss antenna on and if need be I will get one :) I ordered the other parts today this is my idea I will use a android 8" stereo since it has Wi-Fi capability I will use the thing for depth finder/fish finder and chart plotter, bam ! then I ordered a vhs radio

Now that's going to look snappy. I noticed the face plate on my $35 stereo started to warp with the 100? temps over here. Looks like the lcd should be fine but you might want a cover just in case.

I tend to learn the hard way.

yeah nothing will be tethered although if I need internet access I can use my phone as a whifi hotspot for that but the stereo acts as a stand alone gps and nav and fish finder I have put a lot of thought into this and with a smaller boat like mine it makes more sense to try to0 minimize whats on the dash, also if I could figure out how to set my gauges up with obd id have used the stereo for that as well since its android it can utilize obd2 but my engine isn't controlled by a open loop ecm so I'm still trying to figure out if there is a ecm type device that can be used just for gauges without it having to control engine.
