Im looking on CL..... any cash expenditures detract from the limited boat fund. there is a 5hp, 60 gal that is listed for $200, offered 50 because by the description, it doesnt work. (maybe a starting capacitor)

look at harbor freight they got repair parts and they are inexpensive

harbor freight parts wont fit USA made stuff..... looking at a 5hp, 60 gallon 220 volt compressor. will be looking at it tomorrow. much less than a new motor, or even getting the motor repaired.

Bit of an update......

picked up a used older (about mid 90's vintage) Campbell Housefield 6hp/60 gallon compressor...... it is nearly identical to the Sanborn I used to have prior to the divorce.

spend the weekend getting the compressor wired, finding a few carts on craigslist that I need to modify to move the compressor around (small garages in FL are a pain in the arse)

managed to work a bit on the boat. since my fairing crosses some of the stripe lines I am planing, I decided to spot-spray those areas to get a 10 mill thickness.

will have to reduce the ratio of duratec 904-001 to gel coat as i was getting separation where there was a small pin-hole or a scratch in the underlying gel.

was getting a few fish-eyes as well, been reading on the duratec 904-001, and its easy to fish-eye. may need to prime first, however will definitely need to do a fog-coat per ondarvr

Weekend progress so far......

laying out all the lines.....

adding tape.... first color being red

after spraying the red and removing the tape.

Sunday morning, started early, sanded the bit of over-spray

then used the pattern to layout some lines for the black and grey, and the blue star.

sprayed the black and grey stripes

0310191423_resized.jpg

then since I have some extra black gel, started playing around with non-skid texture for the foredeck, swim platform and cockpit. mixed up some fumed silica with the gel, mixed at 1.5%, spread it on with a brush, then wait about 5 minutes, and roll over with a bed-liner texture roller.

Then sprayed the Harbor Blue

after breakfast this morning, will tape off the field of white in the stripes. Today plan on spraying the transom, and next weekend the bottom.

We have a white bottom........ oh, and the boat bottom is white too

Largest spray yet.... on my knees under the boat......

one of the things planned when the boat was off the trailer was to relieve the bunk where it was kissing the hard chine.

no after pics, however a few minutes with a 4-1/2" with 36 grit beveled the top edge of each bunk about an inch. Actually have 1/2" clearance now

Pick right after boat was raised off trailer.

My bud Andrey with a roll of masking tape in his hand

a half hour of taping off the stripes / sides and we were ready to spray. I had iced out 5 cups of 904 additive and the gallon of gel. showed Andrey how to mix, and as my gun cup ran dry, a new mixed 24 oz of gel arrived. Bottom was only two coats as it was white on white. sides were 4 coats

these are after removal of tape.

I then spent a bit of time turning wood to sawdust on the trailer.

While upstairs, took a shot of the boat from another perspective

Andrey says it looks good
