The rain and 35mph winds are also helping to keep me from working on the boat.....

Its been a Merry Boat Christmas. Mother-in-Law got me a set of docking lights and a new compass, Wife got a new 8' VHF antenna, SIL/BIL got me a new signal splitter, and my step son got new courtesy lights (voltage one way and they are red, voltage the other way and they are white)

So, spent a bit of time looking at the dash. It really needs 5" gauges, so I started making a layout. Also, with the addition of dock lights, under water lights and bi-color courtesy lights, I need to add more switches

the existing legend on the dash is faded. thought of water-transfer decals, however going with laser cut windows, a scotch-cal decal in the bottom and clear casting resin over the top of them. with a T1 3/4 LED to back-light when the dash lights are on.

Spent some time with my buds over at VeeThree Instruments.

First thought is the Argent line. They no longer have a 5" Speedo, however they do have a 5" tach and a 5" 4-in-1

Then we looked at the Black Sterling Line

5" combo Tach/gauges, 5" tach and 2" gauges. they also have a 3" multi-gauge

However with the white compass, the Admiral (AKA the Boss) says the Argent series. So I am in process of re-laying out the gauges to use the ARGENT series gauge in this configuration:
  • 65536SSF – 5” Tachometer, 7000 RPM –Stud connections
  • 65520SSF – 5” Multi-Function with Fuel, Volt, Temp 120-240F and Oil pressure 0-80 PSI
  • 65531SSF – 3” Speedometer, 70 MPH Pitot type
  • 65518SSF – 2” Hourmeter
  • 65551SSF – 2” water pressure

Now I simply need to find an engine oil temp that closely resembles the back-lit argent series and I need to polish the bezel on the Volvo trim gauge.

also toying with the idea of using Carling Contura III rocker switches. I can get the actuator rockers in grey

You going to install any kind of chart plotter or other?
If so no need to speed-o

I still want a speedo, even though the Garmin im planning on has GPS speedo. I thought about a glass dash with two 5x7 displays, however electronics fail.

Short of a custom set of Livorsi gauges, this is a good plan.

One of these days (may still be some time) the speed-o is gone and will install a chart plotter in the middle

updated dash layout. looking at either the Contura III or Contura V switches. did not modify the one 5 inch gauge to a 4-in-1. I do need to get the gauges to verify the bezel thickness. I may push the 3" gauge lower, putting two 2" gauges above, however i am thinking the big red warning light and buzzer under the speedo.

Spent a bit more time laying things out. the Square Volvo Penta tilt gauge will not fit with the bigger 5" tach/4-in-1..... so I am relocating it to where the depth gauge was, and looking into a 2" round depth gauge for the dash.

update

working within the limitations of our laser at work.....

Originally was going to laser thru for the switch icons, fill the gaps with clear resin, then back-light with some small LED's

however the laser looses much of the detail for small stuff, however playing with the tech tables, we can etch it about .020 deep. then will fill with luminescent red paint - so it will glow in the dark for about 4 hours

link to paint https://www.amazon.com/Glow-Dark-Pa...ons&keywords=red+glow+in+the+dark+paint&psc=1

DASH-WITH-LABELS.jpg I have access to some plastic laser-etch sign material and a good friend that can make labels with their desk-top laser, however i wanted the label in the base material.

not to mention, the material would tear in forming if the label icons were thru
