well..... no turning back now....

the point of surgury

0917191853_resized.jpg
the first hole.......

0917191857_resized.jpg
used an 1-1/4" hole saw for the first side...... that way I can move the hole up/down/fwd/aft as needed.

0917191904_resized.jpg
0917191925_resized.jpg
some of the flotation foam will need to be removed as the hole is centered on the top edge of the foam

0917191934_resized.jpg
that was it for Tuesday...... On to Wednesday

get home late

however some more exhaust tubing arrived (its just 316L sanitary elbows and tube with a polish folks). two elbows, $25 each from a plumbing supply house

That came out real nice

it will be better when its actually mounted.... gravity has it slightly twisted, and it wont sit flush on the hull yet, however should tonight. then I have to hook up the H-pipe dumps and mufflers to the tips. a bit of modification will be needed, and I need to give up on the captains call as there is no room in my boat for the H-pipe with the dump elbows, mufflers, and captains call....

going to list them on fleabay - new never run Chris Craft 28 Corsa captains call diverters from a 8.1..... may get enough for gas money.

got the hole opened up

0919191902a_resized.jpg
using my patented foam carving / removal tool

0919191902_resized.jpg
then using my patented helper hands

0919191906_resized.jpg
I now can look inside to see how I need to modify the pieces

Modified exhaust elbows - took the elbow off the muffler

0923191839b_resized.jpg
had to be creative with the elbows and clearing the internal longitudinal stringer. hence the elbow clocked at 45 degrees.

both sides installed now

Had to work Saturday for a military project.....

so, didnt get to work on the boat until today.

had the mufflers modified during the week, and the first elbows shortened.

My polishing guy at work is busy polishing the bow chafe plate and the anchor door for the Lexus LY 65 yacht..... so he couldnt get to my "g'ment" job

so....

take a pair of exhaust elbows scratched during motification.

start addressing the welds with 2" grit discs

first coarse..... then fine

0929191046_resized.jpg

Move up to 600 grit (side by side for comparison)

0929191058_resized.jpg0929191117_resized.jpg Then move on to 800 grit

0929191124_resized.jpg
then 1200 grit

then 1500 grit

then 2000 grit

0929191135_resized.jpg0929191135a_resized.jpg
then 2000 grit

then 3000 grit

Then polish

after polishing, one must stand on their head to install mufflers, elbows, and hoses

and yes.... my feet are black from polishing compound

0929191648_resized.jpg Just need to get a 45 degree barbed elbow for 1" hose and 6 hose clamps

you can see the sweat and goo from my arm as I leaned on the H-pipe.

Now I can move on to installing the battery switch, the bilge plumbing, the bilge vent plumbing, and the batteries.

I think your exhaust is worth more than most boats cost :D :thumb:

500 degree 4-ply nomex silicone hoses are pretty squishy and flexible. a lot more flexible than 250 degree marine exhaust hose (and the same cost)

the original motor had 1" between the y-pipe and the elbows running a factory balance on factory cheap isolators

this is a fully zero-balanced big block, with brand new higher capacity isolators and two hoses on each side with a gap. I doubt there will be any movement, yet if there is, it will be fine.

Understand what was and what is now, and what kind of hose. The gap between elbow to Y-pipe is on the same axis, a little twist is not going to do much. Yours extends across both mans to each side, like maybe 7 feet. The motor won't move but the hull will. Hope I'm just a worry wart :noidea:

the hull is between 1/2" thick at the front of the opening and 3/4" thick at the back of the opening where the tabing is.

Its over 3/8" thick where it meets the cap which is 1/4" thick

I have bigger problems if the hull moves. that means I hit something.

minor update....... the Admiral is away this weekend..... the plan was to have a get together Saturday with a few buds and have a bonfire.

however the tropical storm went thru, made it a bit wet. in stead of fishing earlier in the day, a few of us did electric karts to shag off a hang over.

had the guys over last night, and to get the fire started, used some napalm.

clean up today, may get back to the boat after the Packer Game

that line is specifically aimed at iboats_tim and Kiter007 because this post will not appear in the new format anywhere
