Nope, it means that the groove is cut in both pieces and then the "Tenon" piece is cut separately and then "Loosely" fitted and glued into place as opposed to cutting a tenon on one piece and fitting it into a mortise on the other piece as in Mortise and Tenon joinery.

th

It's also called Spline Joinery as well.

Ahhh, got ya...youre pretty smart for a D.O.O ;) Thanks

Just got nailed with about a foot of snow yesterday, now another 6" or so tonight, then maybe a bunch more on Sunday..ugh..looks like ill be glassing the cabin door in the shop this weekend. Yes, I decided to encapsulate the doors, and just leave the door jamb teak.

Yup, ditto here...we got about 7" on Saturday evening/Sunday. Then 50˚ on Monday, then more snow last night and all day...I'm so ready for spring!! Well actually I need a few more days, my 2nd shipment of vinyl is supposed to be here RIGHT NOW and there's a few odds and ends needed to finish off the boat...

The new drip edges on the engine covers came out Factory Fresh, very nice!:thumb:
Your paint booth, well let me say that we have a Quote, Unquote, professional booth at our shop, and I like yours better...:cool-new:
And count me in for spending some time at the Man Cave Transom Bar, I could definitely get :drunk: and  there... yeah baby!:becky:

I won't mention this winter.....is it spring yet?

One question, why not just build an new door? Just a thought...lay up flat skins for both sides, then laminate them to a foam core with glass edges? you could build some simple wood molds.....light, square, and no wood. I know I am simplifying things, but the thought of keeping the old door and encapsulating it bugs me for some reason....that said she is your boat sir!

I ran thru all the options of a new door Arch...but i would have to make 4 molds for each door, (4 frame pieces). The acrylic is set about 1/4 inch in the frame groove, and to mold it in one piece wont work. I would have to make the molds, then route them out, set the acrylic, then join them...plus, having composite or foam cored doors means little if all the surounding structure is wood cored...in 100 years, left in a field, the doors would be the only thing left standing ;)

The teak is straight, completely dry and oil free, so it will make a decent core. Plus, its all set for me already, I just want the cloth wrap for a hard shell, and only need to fair it to eliminate any cloth print thru..basically, i just tape off the acrylic, lay a coat of cloth and resin, then skim coat it and block it.

Update:

I started out today by measuring the door pieces, so I can make new ones if I screw this up, but so far its going ok.

One of the doors is mostly intact, the other is coming apart at the joinery. So I started with the intact one (easier :)). I started by cleaning the acrylic panels, then assembled the doors. I set one aside for now and clamped the other.

Theres a few scrapes on the acrylic, but they will come out with a headlight polishing wheel.

I also removed both piano hinges for cleaning/polishing.

I then taped off the acrylic and cut some 8.x oz eglass.....it tured out that it was too heavy to make the 90 deg radius so I switched to some lighter cloth I had...i think its 6 oz or less.

This worked out much better, as long as I draped it over like lamming a surfboard.

The paint arrestor exhaust filters came in too, so I can start making the grids for the booth.

Gonna try to get the flip side of that door covered tomorrow if I can.

Hmm that is a little different than what I thought you were going to do on the doors. I'll be interested to see what the final product is!

No problem with loose joints now . ;)
Are they gunna fit in the jambs with adding the extra glass around the edges ? I guess you could have trimmed the edges down a bit to allow room for the glass. Or was they set in a jamb ?
