My wife is from Boston...she's got no problems hiding the truth ;)

Nice barn project. I love seeing old barns "repurposed". A lot more creative and characteristic than building boring.

That barn is awesome. I some how managed to keep the 2 acre horse farm my ex and I bought back in the 90s. 3 stall barn with plenty of storage space but no way to get a car or boat in it. Now it needs a roof :-( which will cut into the boat budget. Mowing is a chore but I think it's worth it when I go to work and see all the crazy traffic and houses built on top of each other. My brothers house is in suburbia an is 3 times mine on a postage stamp size property. He could never have 2 boats and 5 cars. Believe it or not NJ is more than Newark airport from the sky.

My my wife is from Philadelphia area and yes she one of the obnoxious eagles fans. Thankfully were we live is near the boarder of north (giants) and south jersey (eagles). When I was a football fan the redskins were my team so I did not like either.

Crazy weather here this week 8 one day and 60 today. Keep up the good work

zool where do you boat?

Thanks Cellot, not much to complain about being in the Bahamas!.....just think, if you fix the Trophy...you could make the Lauderdale/West End jump without too much trouble in a 28 ;)....I try to keep the thread entertaining, even if it means showing some of the wackyness i get involved in here!...posting glass lams gets boring, but i have a few more pics for you guys.

Thanks Mike, I know what you mean, im a transplanted Ranger fan......sitting in Flyer country!

I have a place on LBI and use Little Egg Inlet for S-SE runs and Barnegat Inlet for N-NE runs...but it got wrecked in Hurricane Sandy, im in the middle of the bureacratic shuffle to try to rebuild...so im in no rush to get the boat done, cuz it would just sit here on blocks for a while anyway...

Jackson is a nice spread out area too.....for such a small state, with so many people....theres plenty of farms still around...

Small update:

Its warm out today, but soggy....but i figured I would see how making the gutter mold works out.

I used packing tape to cover the gutter area for the form

Then cut some 17oz biax a little oversized

Wetting it out was tedius trying to get the tight radius, but it eventually formed nicely....

its taking its time to kick, so I just left it there undisturbed til tomorrow...hope the packing tape releases it!..so far it looks like this method will work....

I usually use a heat gun/hair dryer to get the resin to kick in colder temps, when doing smaller areas such as you are doing. That might be a better approach than just waiting for it to cure on its own.

I ran the torpedo heater really hot inside for a while.....but it still didnt kick...if it doesnt cure tomorrow, ill have to question my hastily mixed resin batch...

Im gonna go out there and check on it between rain storms....ill give the heat gun a shot while im there..

Mr. Zool,

Permission to come aboard?

Not sure how I missed this restore?! Glad I caught it though...you're doing an awesome, tedious and thorough job on that BL! I hope to never have to follow in your foot steps...Although, I do enjoy some good ole' fashion hands on work and you have set the bar high!

Cheers,

Did you use Poly or Epoxy resin? Regardless I agree with the Heat Gun method!!! Or if I was there I could just start talkin an all that hot air would make it kick in 30 seconds!!!!:D

its still 3:1 epoxy Mike....I hit it for a while with a heat gun and it stiffened up some, but not brittle yet...the humidity was real high today, maybe slowing it down??...as the season dragged on, it was taking longer and longer to set....so i really cant tell if i have a problem til tomorrow....if it doesnt cure, no biggie to take it off and try again....I may have slightly short changed it on the catalyst also..the pump gave out on me a while ago...so ive been mixing in graduated paint cups, with no issues so far...

And umm, I may have to fill you with coffee and put you in the tent, so i can work on the stringers again :D

Ok, went out there this morning and it finally set....still slightly tacky but it holds its form. I popped it off the tape and did a test fit...looks good. now I have to figure a way to clamp it after i dish out the underside. I could probably use a piece of quarter round molding and c clamps, or trim it some and just tape it in place. It only needs to work as a temporary backer so I can laminate the required thickness. I guess ill have to hotcoat 3 or 4 layers of 17oz. Then use the heat gun....

Thanks for the heat gun advice guys...seemed to help it along just enough to get me by ;)

Sorry, I must've got that in my brain when reading through the comparision, It even says "Imperial" right in the title!! (I know nothing about large boats and models). And for the larger boats, I've heard nothing but good things about the larger BL's!

I created a 3-ring binder complete with receipts, manuals and a pictorial of all the progress that I'm doing on my Chris Craft (no where the level of yours), that way I have a way to show any future buyers the process and quality (or lack there of?) of what was done...
Of course there's always emailing the iboats thread link too?!

Cheers!

Thats very true, can go a long way with a buyer, surveyer, and also the insurance rep for an agreed value or the adjuster for a total loss...
